Palestine is the compass
THIS financial crisis will be different than every other and the ultra rich will not become richer while the rest of us suffer.
SXSW is choosing to shoot itself in the foot and erode its own music festival rather than regain the trust of artists and the music community. It seems that music will continue in some capacity at SXSW, and we will continue to demand fair pay and no warmongers at the festival.
Gotta say our drummer who is very handsome and newly single and is @ ben hilzinger on instagram really hammered on this one sound on
free palestine
In advance of gigs with @titus-andronicus.bsky.social, @eve6.bsky.social shared covers of Len's "Steal My Sunshine" (with L1ZY) and Wreckless Eric's "Whole Wide World" (with @suzietrue.bsky.social).
This summer Max Collins will also play in @fountainsofwayne.bsky.social's first shows since 2013.
I swear i don't know the answer and i'm guessing 402 and if I'm right I'll give the tickets to a reply guy but you should guess too
if anyone heard chappell call for a liveable wage for performing musical artists and songwriters at the grammys and thought
“what is the best organization i could support that’s fighting for that”
that organization is called @umaw.bsky.social
Colonizing Palestine has been the Zionist goal for over 125 years.
Please enjoy our new rock song Burlap. It's available as an early release for our Patreon subscribers. Hoping to get this one on the dazed and confused 2 soundtrack
Now this, this is looting. Ain’t nobody gonna be arrested for it either.
Yes. I’m in Austin now. But the fam back home is good so far. Multiple friends lost houses though :(
Santa Ana winds that were upwards of 90 MPH and 8 months of no rain. They had issued red flag warnings about fires before they started. Regardless of what sparks started them it was pretty much inevitable. I don’t think it’s mass arson or conspiracy of some sort.
Is there a single person who has ever listened to a song in ATMOS outside of a studio?
Oh hi @abbymartin.bsky.social 👋
Great article and research here by @lizpelly.bsky.social My main takeaway is that Spotify is the new Musak and AI will eventually do most of the heavy lifting cutting out even the music library creators. Real artists need a new ecosystem that values their labor and pays fairly #deletespotify
BREAKING: 300+ musicians including Tegan and Sarah, Kathleen Hannah of Bikini Kill, Deerhoof, Eve 6, Speedy Ortiz & more have signed an open letter opposing big corporate record labels' lawsuit attacking the nonprofit Internet Archive www.rollingstone.com/music/music-... h/t @liaholland.bsky.social
This bandcamp Friday please send a little something to JJ who came up with the idea and then got laid off from the company. Venmo is in the thread.
I'm not on twitter anymore, but this tweet from 2 years ago is sadly more accurate than ever
Haha yeah the touring side needs its own thread. And as far as record contracts go the one I laid out is pretty much best case scenario. There are only 3 major labels. So if you want to go that route there’s not much option for negotiation.
This scenario is just streaming/sales/syncs etc. Many artists still have 360 deals though where the label is taking a piece of everything.
It depends on how frugal you are. If you spent a lot of money on your record and promotion it will be a lot more to recoup. With touring it depends on how much you spend on production/travel etc. All the business people get paid off the top and the expenses come out of the artists pocket after that
Granted if you don’t recoup you don’t have to come out of pocket to pay it back. But this type of loan makes a pay day loan look reasonable.
Unless of course you had a producer and mixer who get points which comes out of the artist side. Generally 4 for a producer 2 for a mixer. So Artist gets .14 for each dollar that comes in.
After 1,000,000 in income the label has made 800,000 and Artists has paid back their loan They now start getting .20 for each dollar that comes in.
Income
$1 - Label .80, Artist .20 (1999,999.80 left to recoup)
$1,000 - label 800, Artist 200 (199,800 left to recoup)
10,000 - label 8,000, Artist 2,000 (198,000 left to recoup)
100,000 - label 80,000, Artist 20,000 (180,000 left to recoup)
1,000,000 - Label 800,000, Artists 200,000 (recouped)
Expenses that the label fronts
Advance - 150,000
Album budget - 100,000
Tour support - 50,000
Total - 200,000
Bringing an old thread over here if anyone wants to talk about the music industry
Overly simplistic breakdown of how a major label record deal works
Royalty rates for artists vary from about 13 - 20% You need juice if you want 20 But we’ll do it based off 20 for the sake of round numbers
