The algorithms are making it a lot harder to spread the word about these online talks. Although numbers are still reasonable, it would be a great help if folk were able to give the 30 December event a quick share πŸ™‚

Booking available here:

Grateful to my lovely MCR community at @hmcoxford.bsky.social for giving me the opportunity to share my research with them (albeit online)…sorry to have missed the cake, but great to hear about some really interesting postgrad work at HMC! Thanks to Federico Murgia & MCR committee for the photo.

Would love the opportunity to talk spoons (I know very little about them but they’re an ever-present feature so have much spoon-learning ahead) πŸ™‚

Beautiful! And I choose to assume this very spoon is one of the many apostle spoons featuring in the wills I’m working on.

This was a great event, thanks to all the @materialwills.bsky.social team for such interesting talks. And it’s not too late to hop onto @zooniverse.bsky.social and do some transcription…

I loved working (in a very small way!) on the digitisation of more VCH Big Red Books; these volumes are full of fascinating detail and it’s wonderful to see the first is now available online. Another brilliant resource made much more widely available!

There's still time to sign up for the @materialwills.bsky.social hybrid transcribathon on Thursday! πŸ“œβœοΈ

Join us online or in person in Exeter, listen to talks from the project team, transcribe alongside like-minded volunteers on @zooniverse.bsky.social

Great to see this project getting recognition for its transformative work creating an HTR model for the transcription of early modern wills - still lots of fun to be had transcribing and correcting lines on @zooniverse.bsky.social

These internships are such wonderful opportunities. I learnt so much in the supportive @ihr.bsky.social environment last summer and had a fantastic experience. Wholeheartedly recommend applying!

β€˜Another day, another will’ goes through my head every morning…or on occasion β€˜Another day, the same will’.

This is only five minutes from me…so if I can justify staying there it’ll have to be for some sort of β€˜research’. Sure I’ll think of something!

@transkribus.bsky.social is generally coping well with these wills (or those I’ve seen at any rate), but its rendering of 17th October 1786 as β€˜W Aatee twols’ suggests dates might need some work! Lots more entertaining material to fill your spare minutes on @materialwills.bsky.social Zooniverse

Loved working on this project and exploring the challenges of digitising the wonderful @vchlondon.bsky.social material. Full of challenges and complexities, but offers new opportunities and is so worth the effort to make these volumes available on @bho.bsky.social.

Really enjoyed @emilymayvine.bsky.social and Harry Smith’s article discussing serious issues around access to and quality of digitised sources. Highly recommend a read by anyone working with digital versions of manuscript sources!

Digitising Red Books: the rigours and rewards of increasing online access to Victoria County History volumes (Part 1) - On History The IHR's VCH Digitisation Summer Intern 2024 reflects on the process of digitising VCH volumes for British History Online.

I spent a wonderful summer as an intern with @ihr.bsky.social, working on the digitisation of pre-2005 @vchlondon.bsky.social volumes for @bho.bsky.social.

This is the first of two blog posts I wrote reflecting on the process:
