02.11.2025 23:31 โ ๐ 6 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I think the term "college and career readiness" is an incredibly well-intentioned shift in education that has left many, many high school students disengaged + disconnected from their learning.
They deserve to learn things that have value + enrich their lives in the presentโnot just the future.
Teaching has always been hard. Teaching through the pandemic was hard. Teaching this year feels harder than usual. A different type of hard. #TeacherSky
30.10.2025 22:38 โ ๐ 6 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0When multiple students say stuff like โYou arenโt going to tell us how many paragraphs our paper has to have or how many pieces of evidence we have to have per paragraph? But thatโs how we were trained!โ it really shows how algorithms replaced writing well before chatbots.
Itโs about pedagogy. ๐คทโโ๏ธ
One of the ongoing challenges as a teacher has been navigating "two classrooms" at once: one for students who are there regularly/moving forward confidently; the other for students who are frequently absent and very much disconnected from what we're doing.

28.10.2025 22:23 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I don't care how long it takes me to write individual student comments on their report cards. Reflecting on each student as a human being, allows me to better help them with their academic goals because I know them. I'm not using AI to mine students' data into a report; I'm co-creating their story.

It looks like youโre reading some of my favorite theorists and writers! The biggest thing my doctoral degree gave me was the language (and power) to call out and name systemic problems in my school and district. Iโm excited for you and this degree! Itโs a ton of work, but so important.
26.10.2025 17:44 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I am sort of curious if at some point we distinguish between pre-AI literature and post-AI literature as a society?
A line between when authenticity was taken for granted and when every text was read with at least a wondering of skepticism?
What a nice surprise that this site exists! โ Mesa, Arizona Another teacher shared some Zinn Ed Project resources with me and I would like to use more with my students. โ Charlotte, North Carolina Iโve followed the Zinn Education Project on Instagram for a while and now that I am a middle school teacher I can finally incorporate the materials in my classes! โ Plano, Texas Iโve been following the Zinn Education Project for a long time, and have attended many PD events, and I am excited to use their lessons in my classroom. โ Minneapolis, Minnesota
Weekly report:
Last week 173 teachers signed up at ZEP for peopleโs history lessons from Mesa, Arizona; Carlsbad, Oxnard, and San Jose, CA; Arlington, MA; Minneapolis, MN; Charlotte, NC; Gladstone, OR; Schwenksville, PA; Plano, TX; Pomeroy, WA; & many more cities.

Talked with teachers in my building. Everyone is feeling more stressed this year. More meetings. More unreasonable expectations. More admin control. Less time. Less agency. Less autonomy. What started as a heaviness is now overwhelming fatigue and weariness. #TeacherSky
24.10.2025 22:00 โ ๐ 14 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Reason # 1,759 why the high stakes standardized testing regime is even more detrimental to the very purpose of writing in the age of LLMs than it was in the before times. Too many students experiences with writing begin and end with exercises in mindless compliance and contrived performance.

โ[Teaching] is about being present. About staying long enough to know what to ask. About saying: โI think I know what you mean,โ even if weโre wrong. Especially if weโre wrong.โ

Iโve thought about this article every day for 14 days. It so perfectly encapsulates why showing up in all of our humanity beats machines every single time. โWhat A.I. canโt do is feel the shape of silence after someone says something so honest we forget weโre here to learn.โ
Nope. Thatโs my job.
OMG! Why is this article making me cry? Our humanity is the only thing that matters. Thatโs it.
