The Oscars are Sunday. For @ebertvoices.bsky.social, I paid tribute to 10 great movies from 2025 whose names we won't hear once during the show. Which is a shame.
Ughhh what a nightmare. I’m sorry!
LOVE moving the clocks forward one hour when I'm on multiple deadlines. It's great, aces, absolutely the best thing ever.*
*Daylight Saving Time can GO TO HELL!!!!
A far more entertaining journey than sitting through BOAN itself, if you ask me
Ugh, really sorry to hear this, Matt. Wishing you the best on your next endeavors, and will continue to follow your work, wherever you may land!
Respectfully: Please get a grip.
Oh, indeed 🫠
Ashamed to say there was a time when I assumed he was doing a Bad Bunny and just being a 20-something celebrity man-thing, but now I know better. THIS IS JUST WHO HE IS
The more Timmy Chalamet speaks, the more his relationship with a Jenner makes all the sense in the world
Evergreen reaction to most projects announced these days. 🫠
Like…I can think of quite a few tech companies that would earn a shit ton of good will if they helped fund a major transportation system, but that’s never gonna happen!
As far as I know, quite a few billionaires and tech companies still exist in the bay, and yet the underfunded BART is under threat of shutting down a bunch of stations within the next few years. So…I’m not really sure their presence matters all that much to the average person.
I noticed that too. The bachelorettes always just look like insta-ready sleepovers for grown women. The men at least get to do real activities, even if those activities are also pretty mid.
One would think that 10 seasons in, Netflix would've upped the budget by now for these LOVE IS BLIND bachelor/bachelorette parties. Looks hella basic and depressing; I do not believe that they are actually enjoying themselves!
I will give him some credit: He had good strategy. But also, and especially: literally everyone but maybe two people wanted to jump his bones
Never trust overalls and a smile
Maura represents the last 10 years of American politics; no I will not explain myself further
This is one of the best movies I saw last year, and will very likely be one of the best movies released this year.
Hard agree, been saying this since the nominations. In what world!!??
On Criterion channel! (until the end of the month, I think)
Also, I want all of Chantel’s outfits. So fucking FLY
Rewatched JUST ANOTHER GIRL ON THE IRT tonight instead of doing something else and I love it, happy BLACK HISTORY MONTH to meeeeeeee
They now look like cousins of Bratz
Will shamelessly use this bit of weird-ass news to re-up a reported feature I did a decade ago about how a committee of black scholars advised o the creation of Addy. The look and texture of her hair was definitely carefully considered:

Omg they gave Addy Walker slicked-down baby hairs lololololol 😭 🫠

OMG. Can we ever just have nice things???
Yeah, that's certainly part of it -- to some extent, you have to pay to play. But then there are so many other factors, especially rank-choice voting, which also need to be considered when talking about the outcomes.
If you have genuinely managed to avoid the various DISCOURSES™️re: the nominees this year -- I'm legit happy for you!
There are just so many factors to consider. On top of everything else (biases, etc.), it was a genuinely strong year for movies, and while I would love the three SINNERS stars to win their categories, some other nominated performances were great too in different ways (Hawke, Moura, and Fanning esp.)
Whatever happens, SINNERS (and probably a handful of other Oscar-nominated movies this year, like THE SECRET AGENT) will stand the test of time.
