Been a while since I checked out this place. I might make some more appearances here in future. Looks to have grown a bit!

I knew one day I’d have to watch powerful men burn the world down – I just didn’t expect them to be such losers

Can a headline alone be eligible for a Pulitzer?

Agreed. I didn't finish my first PhD attempt, and that was in no small part due to the fact that I had to wrestle with being expected to treat it as a full time job, while not earning enough money to pay my rent and bills. In the end, all the work I had to do gave me more options than the PhD did.

Jeff Bezos never wanted this cartoon to become public.

He killed it, and as a result, pulitzer prize editorial cartoonist Ann Telnaes quit.

Make sure everyone sees this cartoon.

I think it works better with programmatic approaches, because the important assessments should be pushed further up the Blooms Tax and have more 'correct answers' as a result. A greater variety of versions of success = a greater variety of paths to that success.

If you choose to use 'low cost' and 'efficient' assessment tasks (online MCQ for example), you must accept one of the two following costs. 1) That you'll need to spend a bunch on integrity breach investigations. 2) That there will be a long term erosion of the value of the degrees you offer.

I did the thing and deleted Xitter (pronounced with a 'sh'). I'll be exclusively here now.

If you assume that the 'minority' of students who outsource assessment one way or another is a single digit percentage, you are probably wrong. If you have built assessment around this assumption (e.g. a fully online test), then I have some bad news about the validity of that assessment.

Live: The Treaty Principles Bill has passed its first reading Te Pāti Māori's Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke was suspended from the house for interrupting the vote on the Treaty Principles Bill's first reading with a haka.

Te Pāti Māori really not taking this bullshit lying down, what a haka

And perhaps those who don't want Māori traditions and practices in public life are in the wrong bloody country

Cost effective? I do not think it means what you think it means... It's been a minute, but it's YetAnotherShaun again (per my Twitter/Bluesky handle - I still refuse to call Twitter anything other than Twitter). Anyone who knows me knows that about three-quarters of ...

Hey #AcademicIntegrity folks. It's that time of year where I pipe up and write a blog post for @ccguerilla.bsky.social's blog. This time, I'm grumbling about 'cost effective' assessment, and it not quite meaning what most people think it means:

I'll be working on some stuff to differentiate an AI agent from a human student - I already readily differentiate students from human agents (contract cheating providers). Watch this space.

Talk to @ccguerilla.bsky.social about it. He recently did one for #AcademicIntegrity

Ding, ding, ding. No need to carry out assurance of learning with the test. Suddenly cost effective again.

So here's the thing. Is a self-marking online test actually 'cost effective' if it is going to cost your institution tens of thousands of dollars in staff time to check for, and then investigate, and decide, the inevitable bucket of integrity breaches?

How likely is it that the late Dame Maggie Smith met Thatcher at some point? If likely, then:

2) That demonspawn Thatcher

I haven't so far. This is the only alternative platform I like so far, so I hope it doesn't go Twittery. If I'm walking away from Musk, I won't walk to Threads because Zuckerberg is a gronk too. I find Mastodon too clunky.
