No death threats pls but IMO Sympathy is a Knife is the best song on Brat and Actually Romantic is the best song on Life of a Showgirl. And if you think of Actually Romantic as coming from the perspective of the person Charli XCX constructed in her mind and is feeling weird about it all makes sense!

I’ve still not fully processed our new reality where official government accounts β€” during a government shutdown!!!β€” are starting Twitter beef with private citizens, @ing them, and making graphics of their social media posts to respond to. The Poster administration.

The quest for every Gap store playlist ever Gap Playlists is an exercise in data collection and nostalgia.

My favorite thing to listen to right now is Michael Bise's trove of Gap in-store playlists from the late 1990s to early 2000s. He's been hunting for these pieces of ephemera for 20 years! www.theverge.com/report/79080...

The journalist cracking the TikTok code Mia Sato was tired of watching news influencers steal her work.

Baggu made transit merch for a store opening. BART had no idea. The transit agency was β€œsurprised to see our logo” on gear from the SF-based fashion brand.

it doesn’t ! sfstandard.com/2025/09/25/b...

This is niche but apparently Baggu was doing a gift with purchase of merch that used the BART logo without permission? and a while back people noticed camo Baggu bags just straight up had a TrueTimber logo in it, like Baggu just screenshotted the print? does Baggu not have lawyers what is going on

TikTok is tagging videos from Gaza with TikTok Shop products TikTok’s new AI feature automatically looks for products in your videos.

New from me: Last week I noticed a feature on TikTok that used AI to scan videos and identify products. It turns out the feature is being applied even to videos from Gaza. In one, a mother cries out for her family. TikTok tagged dresses, head coverings, and handbags.

The problem with trying to monetize every inch of online engagement is twofold. For one, there is content that we put online that can’t β€” or shouldn’t β€” be used to sell something, and the systems that power e-commerce cannot understand context. Videos shouldn’t need to depict what experts call a genocide to be off-limits to the aggressive marketing tactics employed by these systems; some people don’t want to be a digital billboard, period. The TikTok feature also represents the ruthlessness of tech platforms in squeezing every cent from user content, transforming the experience of being online into browsing an endless shopping mall. In this way, at least, the feature is honest about what the platforms want the internet to be.

There is the obvious issue with tagging purses and clothes in videos depicting mass death. But there's also the larger implication that online, we are all unwittingly billboards for someone else's e-commerce operation.
