My family wasn’t incarcerated during WWII bc we weren’t yet in the US. This trip means so much to me because I shared it with a truly diverse community of other Japanese Americans. From people who are 5th generation to children of immigrants to adoptees to mixed race JAs. I’m endlessly grateful.

In 2019 I had the incredible opportunity to visit Manzanar concentration camp with other young Japanese Americans. Feb 19th marks the day FDR issued orders removing and imprisoning 120,000 Japanese Americans, and my trip is especially top of mind today. I took these photos—more details in alt text.
