From the founding of our nation, LGBTQ+ Americans have fought valiantly and sacrificed to defend the country they love, demonstrating unwavering commitment and patriotism.

Anyone who meets the standards should be able to serve. A ban based on who a person is and not on how they perform or what they can contribute greatly conflicts with military values.

Yesterday the administration signed an executive order banning transgender people from serving in the military. Denying capable Americans the opportunity to serve and protect our nation undermines our military’s readiness, safety, and inclusivity.

Make sure someone knows where you are crossing, when you are planning to cross, and carry emergency contact information with you should something unexpected occur. If possible, have a non-LGBTQ+ person travel with you so they can implement the safety plan should something unexpected occur.

BORDER CROSSINGS
We do not have reports of problems with border crossings. However, if you seek to cross borders with previously changed passport documents, make a safety plan first in case of unexpected detainment, document confiscation, etc.

Don’t panic. Be smart. Wait for more clarification before seeking to make these changes. Make sure you keep notes of any interactions including date, time, agency, specific address, names, and under what authority are they confiscating documents.

Until we have more information, we are advising a pause in updating your Social Security gender.

There have been multiple reports of denied passports and threats of supporting information like changed birth certificates being confiscated. Documents may be at risk if visiting a Passport office to update gender marker or renew a previously amended passport.

PAUSE UPDATING GENDER ON PASSPORTS & SOCIAL SECURITY DOCUMENTS!

Reports indicate that agents in some US passport offices are being directed to confiscate passports and/or supporting documents for anyone trying to update their gender marker.

Due to cold weather, we are rescheduling tomorrow’s hike to next Saturday, February 1st.
