Hate speech policies are a reflection of a company’s values. If LinkedIn believes that transgender and nonbinary people should be protected from hate and harassment, they should clearly state this without resorting to confusing doublespeak.

It is up to all of us to continue to highlight and condemn the severe human rights violations inflicted on Andry and others violently, wrongfully detained.

Every person, organization, and media outlet who shared Andry’s story, attended a rally, and spoke with friends and family about his case showed that change is possible when we work together.

The Right to Due Process is enshrined in the Constitution for all on U.S. soil, as just reaffirmed by the Supreme Court. Andry deserves exactly that.

The unconscionable circumstances he was placed in should not be forgotten, and we all must keep fighting for the rights of immigrants and asylum seekers. Even today, as he returns to his native Venezuela, Andry’s safety is not guaranteed.

Despite following the asylum-seeking process, Andry Hernandez Romero was still wrongfully detained like countless others. Andry came to the U.S. as an asylum seeker, fleeing the credible threat of anti-LGBTQ violence and political persecution.
