Where did you visit in the Peaks? Heading to Sheffield next week and considering a Sunday in the peaks on the way home.
Thank you!
Best places to eat breakfast centrally? Sorry, I owe you at least one pint at this point!
Oh boo! So has the Abbeydale pub/bar/tap on the other side of the road closed then?
Did the little craft beer shop on Abbeydale close? That place was lush, but it’s not on the map anymore.
Has their little pub/taproom closed? My folks live nearby, so Abbeydale will be a Friday night trip.
I was frustrated that I woke up at 7am, but now the kitchen is cleaned and I am sitting in the sunshine eating my breakfast in silence, I am feeling pretty chuffed.
Exciting! Really looking forward to this one. #TheNetherfield
OH SMOD is a 100% must visit.
I had five of these on my list, so I am not doing too badly.
That was actually my planned last stop.
Any recommendations @craftbeerchannel.bsky.social and @pelliclemag.com?
Right, I am planning a couple of days in Sheffield to visit breweries and pubs. I know where I want to go, but which places should I have on my list? It will be good to see what I’ve missed and over looked.
This is a good beer.
Whatever makes you happy…
Maybe, but why didn’t they name it? I wondered if it would be a bigger distillery, like a Glenfiddich or an Aberlour? Again, we maybe need a more knowing expert to explain which distilleries don’t allow their whisky to be named when bottled by others?
I honestly had no idea. It was a lovely dram, but you would have to ask that question of someone much cleverer than me! 🤣
Thompson Brothers – Mystery Malt (Series No.3) – Speyside 27 Year Old
Mysteries are fun. I have always enjoyed solving puzzles, completing crosswords and have got quite in to those locked in a room games with friends. So when I heard that Thompson Brothers had created a series of whiskies packaged…
Not sure which my favourite was, but I think #TheCairnDistillery 18 Year Old is the best bang for buck of the bunch. Thanks @thewhiskywire.bsky.social for organising. Love #BlueSkyTastings, they are like the old days of the other place.
The palate of the 30YO is delicate. There is a honey sweetness, delicate floral notes, lemon zest and gentle ginger spice. #TheCairnDistillery
Maybe less sherry influence? Or different sherry? Much more nutty. #TheCairnDistillery
Last is #TheCairnDistillery 30 Year Old. This time I get lemon meringue, crisp green apples and then sherried fruit. It’s quieter, but still full flavoured.
It’s weird how whisky seems to age a little bit like books! 😂 #TheCairnDistillery
The palate of #TheCairnDistillery 25 Year Old is like a refined version of the 18YO. Somehow more mellow, but with all the same musty fruity, leather books and spice.
Third dram is #TheCairnDistillery 25 Year Old. Again, this is full of beautiful sherried aromas. Rich fruity brown sugar, citrusy zest and toasted nuts.
The palate of #TheCairnDistillery 18YO follows the nose, it’s musty and full of lovely dried fruits, whole nut chocolate and then full of warming gingery and cinnamon spice.
Knew it! 😂 #TheCairnDistillery
Next is #TheCairnDistillery 18 Year Old. Aroma: Loads of musty, sweet sherry fruit, toasted hazelnuts and milk chocolate sweetness.
With that little line on the side, I bet @kaskwhisky.bsky.social is trying to pour drams exactly on the line! #TheCairnDistillery
Do they class themselves as Highland or Speyside? #TheCairnDistillery
