God you've just reminded me of the fact "Podcast" is a contraction of the 'Pod' from 'iPod' and the 'cast' from 'webcast'
I love that the term podcast has outlasted both haha
can't stop watching this clip of a tesla Optimus teleoperator taking his headset off before properly logging out the robot

Honestly having 4 options for smartphones with headphone ports really helps narrow the options down when shopping xD
A polaroid camera doesn't run your friends faces through AI, scrape your metadata or try to sell you a photobook
A physical alarm clock doesn't fuck you over in the morning if it had a system update
Wired headphones don't have a shelf life attached to their battery degradation
The PS2 version of GTA San Andreas didn't remove half of the songs from a game you own just because rockstar no-longer has the right to distribute them in new sales.
An iPod doesn't send you ICE adverts
You don't lose access to a DVD when the rights move to a different streaming service
We had an Overwhelmingly Positive score on Steam, then these two reviews rolled in
Why does Valve allow this?
I still maintain that the only time traffic was fixed was during the pandemic when those who didn't need to commute didn't have to, and I've seen traffic get worse and worse as "Hybrid" working slowly becomes less & less hybrid. I want the infrastructure too, but that's time and money.
08.12.2025 12:57 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0As someone who works from home, driving is as an indulgence. I'm here for spirited drives on a sunny weekends, not the millions of cars every morning & afternoon moving 5mph in urban traffic through a lack of WFH freedoms for those who don't need to commute or decent infrastructure for those who do.
08.12.2025 12:57 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I do agree though, I LOVE not commuting to work. I love that getting in my car is usually for a purpose, not a routine. I think everyone should be able to get a tram to work, that roads should be empty enough that busses don't just sit in traffic. When driving is a choice, cars fight for merit.
08.12.2025 12:42 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I feel that it's also a spiral though. Folks pay less attention when driving (texting etc) so safety features step in, making it easier to pay less attention, we get more safety features & before you know it you have the tesla driver who got a free convertible after autopilot drive him under a truck
08.12.2025 12:37 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0I'm still a huge proponent of the old single and double din systems used for radios up until the 00's because my 1996 Volvo has DAB and Bluetooth, and my 2003 MG has fucking Android Auto, and that spirit needs to return to keep cars with the times. Build it to fucking last y'know.
08.12.2025 12:28 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Honestly I'd love something like a framework laptop in car form. Battery technology, In-Car Tech, Safety Features (Blindspot, Smart cruise, Collision avoidance etc.) is always evolving and I'd pay a premium for a "buy once, slot in advancements as they come" vehicle which was made to be retrofitted.

Companies like Ford killing their offerings of hatchbacks (A competitive price driven market) then selling almost the same vehicle with minor aesthetic differences (higher beltline, chunkier details) in the premium SUV segment, mass data collection, predatory subscriptions for shit like carplay
08.12.2025 12:06 — 👍 9 🔁 2 💬 1 📌 0Cars are bloated, expensive, unreliable, profit hungry and data invasive. All whilst constantly increasing in size to the detriment of emissions, pedestrian safety, practicality, infrastructure and cost to the customer.
Fuck the automotive market. Fuck Capitalism.
Vehicles are harder to work on, everything has to be done at a dealer, or with niche software which stops the driveway mechanic changing their own brakepads, engines fail sooner and more catastrophically, essential spares just vanish from production, and touchscreens die faster than real gauges.
08.12.2025 12:06 — 👍 4 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Any ICE car from the mid 90's onwards is perfect at being "a series of explosions to drive you to work". They're safe enough, reliable enough & usable enough to daily. The difference between them and now is bluetooth and cupholders. EVs are a worthy step forward for the planet but not a necessity.
08.12.2025 12:06 — 👍 3 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0The goalposts keep being moved on Safety. It may surprise you to discover that brick walls haven't gotten any harder since NCAP testing took off in the 90's but now they'll tell you a car is unsafe if it doesn't have expensive lane keep sensors. It's bullshit and it's expensive bloat.
08.12.2025 12:06 — 👍 4 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0I know we're aware that Tesla fucking suck but even before the cybertruck every Model 3 had most top-level features. They all have the hardware for rear heated seats, but they'll only let you use them if you buy the £300 button. Same for longer range. Same for Performance modes. It's just software.

08.12.2025 12:06 — 👍 9 🔁 2 💬 1 📌 0As someone into cars, who is also way too poor to afford a new one, the insidious anti-consumer tactics have been apparent for years. PCP Finance schemes where you make 3 years of payments on a car to not even own it at the end? Cars being sold in White to make them easier for dealers to resell?
08.12.2025 12:06 — 👍 6 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0In many ways, the voices from all sides saying that things are shit now is reassuring. The problem is capitalism. It's not just dyed in the wool marxists saying it, it's everyone. With an imminent repeat of 2008 even more people will see this.
THINGS WILL CHANGE
It's down to us to be that change.
A Labour government cracking down on immigration (which fills the hole in the workforce) at the same time as telling millions of diagnosed ADHD patients who depend on their medication for work to eat shit is not just comedically evil pandering to sneering geriatrics, it's also economic suicide.
08.12.2025 10:43 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0We're looking down the barrel of an economic seismic event as boomers, the largest, highest earning and most tax contributing demographic retire amidst birth rates which have been falling off a cliff since 2010. There's a financial crater and nowhere near enough younger generation to support them.
08.12.2025 10:43 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0The government saying that it's a problem how many working age people are "economically inactive" (i.e. Not working or studying) at the same time as demonising the medication which helps tens of thousands of ADHD people find and keep jobs sure is... Something
Once again, the cruelty is the point.
