🧵The oldest building on Union Street isn't Forsyth House/Union Corner (1851), which burned down last Sunday, or the ornate Egyptian Halls (1871)
It's the Rennie Mackintosh Station Hotel, which now houses homeless people.
This IS good, it’s a better read on the issues facing universities than the vast majority of stuff one sees in the national press. I don’t know how this Manc outfit does it, but it’s really impressive.
This is excellent reporting which deftly demonstrates the weaknesses and loopholes in Companies House, before you even get to opaque trusts in overseas territories!
Attempting to track down the owner of 105 Union Street - where Sunday's city centre fire is believed to have started - has taken The Bell from Pollokshaws to South Lanarkshire, and given us insight into a retail sector regulated in the loosest sense of the word.
But we think we've done it anyway.
"Burnham has consistently called for greater government accountability... Having to be forced by journalists to release a report into how the GMCA lends hundreds of millions of pounds of public money to developers would appear at odds with that".

Update on our libel case 🚨 - the businessman suing us didn’t turn up to the high court for the first hearing. Judge was unimpressed with his medical evidence.
Fighting these threats to journalism in the UK is frustrating and expensive but we will win.

“being a regular Mill reader is one of Ivison’s obvious virtues”
Well, he is a Political Philosopher.
Why are there SO many fires destroying historical buildings in Glasgow? Tonight’s tragedy is just the latest.
@glasgowbell.bsky.social mapped them. ‘With every conflagration there are whispers that there’s slightly more to things than meets the eye’.

The tightknit, secretive gaggle of thespians and playwrights in Sheffield know the world of theatre can be cliquey.
But three recent hires have insiders suggesting it might be worse than previously thought. www.sheffieldtribune.co.uk/it-looks-rea...

Today we profile the man who may have the most important job in Manchester. Duncan Ivison runs one of the country's biggest universities, but he faces "tanking" international applications and the threat of AI.
Can his new style of leadership work?

Manchester Mill find the small group of Reform activists includes several with v overt prejudices. They fairly note that Goodwin can't be expected to vet them all in advance. To date, the site report he is not willing to criticise ant of it once revealed either

EXCLUSIVE: Reform UK just broke electoral law in Gorton and Denton.
The party confirmed they sent out campaign materials without proper party imprint, something it insists was a mistake.
Wow - @manchestermill.bsky.social catches Reform UK sending fake letters to residents without saying they’re from Matt Goodwin’s campaign, a glaring breach of electoral law.
Looks like the effectiveness of electoral law may be facing a test:
