The clattering, chaotic, romantic world of Greater Manchester’s lost newspapers What happens when a community loses its champion?

The MEN is now the only local newsroom in Greater Manchester that has more than a handful of staff reporters, but go back 25 years and it would have been one of a dozen.

Our weekend read is the tale of what’s been lost.

After Becky’s mum died, it was time to sell her childhood home. Then Andrew Milne got in touch Plus: As the search for answers continues, The Tribune takes to the road

More excellent reporting from the @sheffieldtribune.bsky.social as they work to track down Andrew Milne. And it starts with a really heartbreaking tale. It does feels like they’ve really broken any power this guy had over anyone… www.sheffieldtribune.co.uk/after-beckys...

Remembering Rachel Cooke | The Observer

Very sad to hear this. Rachel interviewed us in 2024 about The Tribune and Mill Media.

She was particularly interested in The Tribune as she grew up in Sheffield.

I quoted her stories quite often, including a memorable piece she wrote about the Castle Market.

Condolences to everyone who knew her.

Sometimes it’s worth the risk β€œWe will definitely bring proceedings for Defamation and Malicious Falsehood if you publish such complete and malicious lies.”

www.sheffieldtribune.co.uk/sometimes-it... I wrote last week about two villains and one hero in the battle between truth and lies. Well here’s another hero - the Sheffield Tribune, one of the Mill stable of independent news sites, had the courage to publish an important story despite legal threats..

A London lawyer bought hundreds of Sheffield freeholds. Then the β€˜very aggressive’ letters arrived Exclusive: The Tribune can reveal that Andrew Milne has threatened leaseholders with high court action. It β€˜broke my heart’ one woman says

City of London lawyer Andrew Milne bought up hundreds of freeholds on homes across Sheffield before advising leaseholders that, if they didn’t pay him exorbitant sums (upwards of Β£25,000), he’d see them in court. Well done @sheffieldtribune.bsky.social @joshiherrmann.bsky.social for exposing this.

We’ve made this investigation free to read because so many people in Sheffield are affected by this story.

Our journalists have been knocking on doors for weeks and we’ve had to employ lawyers because of the legal threats made against us.

We can only do this kind of journalism with your support.

A story to make your blood boil. But as an aside, I'm a big fan of Mill Media sometimes printing the full aggressive responses they get to their questions (see also: Twamley, Lee)

A London lawyer is demanding dozens of Sheffield homeowners pay Β£25k to buy the freehold off him - or face court action for covenant breaches

Given he acquired these freeholds for under Β£400 each, this equates to a potential profit margin of over 6,000% www.sheffieldtribune.co.uk/a-london-law...

This summer, Andrew Milne - a City of London solicitor - bought up hundreds of freeholds in west Sheffield.

Then the letters started to arrive. They included threats of high court action and offers to sell the freeholds - for Β£25,000.
