@zackpolanski.bsky.social Hi Zack, I can’t help thinking that the Together Alliance demo is the best opportunity that we will have to sign up new members and/or get details for potential voters. Moving the online Green Spring Conference to maximise the demos feels like a smart thing to do.

I asked an expert a question because I’m interested in the practical implementation of MMT. I don’t understand why you’ve a problem with that OR why you’ve made statements which have nothing to do with my question OR why you feel the need to be rude BUT those are your problems to solve not mine.

I understand the MMT principles. Demand led inflation/deflation can take hold very quickly. For me, interest rates aren’t very responsive and taxation feels even less responsive. I’m sure Richard has a practical solution and that’s the answer I’m looking for.

The standard theory is that you limit or boost demand via interest rates. High interest rates encourage saving and low interest rates encourage spending. I can see that you can use taxation to do the same thing in theory but I don’t understand how you do it in practice.

No my specific question is if using taxation to manage domestic inflation is better than interest rates, how can it practically be done.

So for managing inflation through interest rates. The BoE is made independent, it meets monthly and sets interest rates to manage inflation. I understand that mechanic. If taxation is better, what mechanic can be used to achieve this? That’s my question.

I’m not quite sure why I need to justify asking a question to you ….., but… At about 5 minutes 20, he says that in some cases, interest rates can be used to control inflation but he thinks taxation is better. I’m not an expert and don’t understand how this can be done, hence the question.

I have a question. If you know the answer then please tell me. My hope in asking the question was to get an answer or a pointer to where I can find it. I ask questions to understand better. I dont need to justify why I have a question.

I was asking a question about one statement in the video which I don’t understand. I’m not disputing the video, I want to understand that question as I cannot see how practically you can change taxation every month to control inflation which is the result of the domestic economy.

My question is “if taxation is a better way to control inflation than interest rates, how do you do it?” My question has nothing to do with the current state of the economy or about equality.

No get that but if you are using taxation to regulate the economy you need to increase or reduce the taxes all of the time. That feels difficult…..

You have to be bold enough to go man for man to be that brave in the press and we weren’t prepared to be that bold. But Chelsea were very good and their shape was very good and they are just better than us.

I thought our pressing was more aggressive than usual but not aggressive enough to not leave a free player. Chelski were good enough to find the free player and play through us.

Even cashing in on Rogers is difficult. Rogers is cheap in terms of the Euro squad and with UEFAs sanctions will be irreplaceable at that price.

Great video. I have a question. I understand the logic of using taxation rather than interest rates to cool overheating economies. Tax increases are politically unpopular. What taxes would you make variable to increase and decrease to control the economy?

To quote Tony Benn - “there is no final victory, as there is no final defeat. There is just the same battle. To be fought, over and over again.” It’s time to fight the battle again.

Great stuff but misses the massive rise in private landlords getting low interest buy to let mortgages. This shifted the tables from rent being cheaper than mortgages to being more expensive.

I think our challenge is that without Pau or Youri, we struggle to pass through the lines BUT without Mings we struggle against physical sides.

For me - he’s got that bit of star quality that Asensio and Rashford had.

A performance would be nice but ultimately the win is better….

Well (Onana in particular) and both retained the ball but were restricted by Maatsen and Bogarde being conscious of the transition risk and Ollie finding it hard to hold the ball up. So whilst we didnt play well in an attacking sense, we defended well and credit to Brighton for their defensive job

Strong - restricting both transitions and chances for Brighton. We did struggle with our attacking play particularly as Ollie and Buendia were ineffective. When we got the ball to Sancho and Rogers on the right, despite being outnumbered they always looked dangerous. Onana and Dougie defended

Looking to play fast on the transition wide. They were obviously aided by a ref letting consistent fouling go unpunished. We looked like we tried to counter this by changing our build-up with a much higher percentage going longer but failed to get the ball to stick.

Off the ball. We were very

Agree with most of that.

However, I think you have to look at individual performances in the context of the game plan (our guess of what we are trying to achieve as we dont know it) and the opposition tactics.

Brighton went with a very aggressive man for man press and then dropped into a low block

Different views are always interesting. I thought Onana was very good. Sancho and Rogers were threats. Ollie and Buendia struggled.

For me, Dougie has been brilliant since he came back. Ran out of steam at the end on Wednesday and the flick was stupid but my confidence of us reaching top 5 is massively boosted by how seamlessly Dougie has slipped back into the middle.
