Today we created 2 new cups live during "Pixelart for beginners".

The homework for this week: construct a simple cylindrical object. Our cups are 32x32 with a circle ratio of ~2:1.
In the scene for "Occult Office" there are 2 lightsources, one from the front left, and one from behind.

Today we look at a lot of viewer artwork from the "simple construction" stream last week and we draw a mug.

If you want to keep it simple, limit yourself to 3 colors + a dark tone (black or purple), 3 different groups of colors (so 10 colors in total) - that's the exact style we showed.

QBert should be pixel-iso as far as the sprites go.
Although it looks like on some arcade screens the lines get stretched out due to the hardware/scanlines. This means if we take the physical output into account, it's a form of dimetry.

So for example most real world helmets are built like real world tanks. Tons of glancing surfaces and holes and openings are designed that nothing can easily get stuck or slided in.
In art the shape and silhouette is more important.
so the big crest would compromise physics, but looks interesting.

I have an idea of what the final thing could look like. In this case like the deep one appaerance.
It's useful to know why things are made the way they are. So I try to learn from people who know.
Then I use that knowledge of history, artstyles and artifacts and combine them according to the idea.

Yes I think it's cool if it looks believable. At least if it's realistically rendered The details are naturally heavily inspired by existing sources. Japanese Edo period and European late Renaissance helmets served as a base, so you might have seen the reference material before.

We just added some clouds during "Pixelart for Beginners" for our "Occult Office: Lofi Rituals" game background.
Simple shapes with just 2 colors will serve as a good base for further polish.
