The destruction of the East Wing hits as hard as it does because it is a purely visual and immediately readable image of what Trump is doing to the country as a whole.
The pictures document the literal destruction the bricks & mortar that form the central symbol of US democracy.
He could get it covered up in half an hour.

So, outspoken liberals who bailed on Twitter for bsky or other platform could potentially be reanimated on X by right-wing trolls, then. Awesome.

Rly appreciate all who responded to my q about STEM ed. What I’m after is “STEM” per se. I’d like to get my hands on that 2001 NSF report & anything else relevant.
I have a hunch that the genome project and DNA day 2000 might have been an inspo.
All leads welcome!
thanks, I shld have been clearer: what I’m wondering about is “STEM” per se, esp the devaluation of arts and humanities and the extent to which it may have been inflienced by millennial genome fever
I’m a Sputnik kid too!
thanks!

I read of a 2001 NSF report, ≈ "The case for STEM," but haven't found it. Anyone know it? Is there anything earlier?
I'm esp interested in possible connexns to the Human Genome Project

Let us remember that one of the main reasons we have had #nokings in this country is because the US has treated education as a basic right and a social good.

Thoughtful, deeply knowledgeable overview of innovation overload and how we got here. And, if I may say, a pretty fair model for the long-form essay review—not an easy genre.

It's now 2025, and I claim a win. I write about it in The Atlantic.

The genetic variation within our bodies is often neglected in discussions of DNA. But each of us contains a fantastical number of genomes that keep shape-shifting throughout our lives. We should celebrate our intra-person genetic variability. Call it…

Note that I don't mean an "iq is genetic" manifesto, but the opposite. But the lack of answers reinforces my impression that a trustworthy resource toward which I could direct people who ask me about this topic doesn't exist.

OMM, it doesn't always see and load my music files. Sometimes I can bring them up by futzing with it, but so far it's not been the seamless experience I crave.
Quite possible that it's my fault. Maybe I'll try it again with my current setup. I so want to escape the Apple music universe!
I like Swinsian. Stripped down interface, sm footprint, good keyword mgmt., easy to navigate. And it just reads your Music folder, so you don't have to reorganize everything.
Plex seems like a great sol'n, but for me, it's been really finicky
David Crosby's "Almost cut my hair" has been in my head lately. Hearing Comey, Pritzker, James, the ICEblock guy, even MTG (!) saying "I won't be intimidated" makes me hear,
