You might say this will, among other problems, look weirdly lopsided, but I think the obvious implication is he's totally planning to do the West Wing next.

Cool. Cool cool cool.

I have never been more confident of anything than I am in my prediction that this is going to lead to someone wearing perfectly ordinary glasses getting their face smashed in at a children's gymnastics event or something.

It is pretty funny that he and Seymour both thought the were good enough, and also correct enough, to try this.

This is also my explanation for why the far-right grew so fast in Sweden: because they basically promised "social democracy for white people". For very many Swedish people (especially men) this was merely saying a quiet part out loud.

New measles cases in Taranaki and Wellington, risk of further cases β€˜very high’ Several of the current infections are linked to an exposure event on the Bluebridge Ferry on October 3.

I'm of the age where we only got 1 dose of measles vaccine at school. Last outbreak we had I went and got much delayed booster. Do consider doing the same if you only had one shot as kid.

okay chat how do we make a scots translation of pghrt.diy happen because the comedic potential here is significant on top of the important linguistic potential

Just found this fucking amazing article about the woman who organized Spokane's first anti-fascist rally. Against the Silver Shirts. In 1938.

Scientists can tell you exactly how much protein rats need, because they can keep rats captive for their entire lives, feed different groups different amounts of protein, and see which ones survive. In human studies, that’s frowned upon.

Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro says 'I'd rather die' than use generative AI Del Toro's new Frankenstein adaption reimagines Mary Shelley's 1818 Gothic novel. Frankenstein was like a tech bro: "creating something without considering the consequences," he explains.

β€œI am not interested, nor will I ever be interested. I'm 61, and I hope to be able to remain uninterested in using it at all until I croak. ... The other day, somebody wrote me an email, said, β€˜What is your stance on AI?’ And my answer was very short. I said, β€˜I'd rather die.’” 🫑

Bertold Brecht (1953)

Had squandered the confidence of the government
And could only win it back
By redoubled work. Would it not in that case
Be simpler for the government
To dissolve the people
And elect another?"

Tighter rules may be needed to stem flow of public submissions, says MP 'Coordinated, largely online campaigns' make it harder for politicians to consider good-faith submissions on laws

A govt seriously concerned with good faith would have a care for the quality of the bills it introduced to Parliament, and refrain from introducing bills based on partisan lies simply to patronise its client parties

Rather than further rationing democratic engagement

No one should EVER monitor Nazi space without a strong support network that can check them regularly and watch for signs that the propaganda is taking hold, and address that reality promptly.

Without a rock solid accountability network, it is playing with fire.

Yeah, once my kid got old enough to be curious about screens I almost entirely stopped doing the direct monitoring work.

It might be overkill but I don't want any of those symbols to be familiar from childhood, even just seen occasionally in passing.

And it was SO good for my brain and spirit.
