I've come across various damaged or bad QC products with very high distortion. But for high end 'non-broken' products, maybe one of the ribbon headphones, or a super loosely tensioned diaphragm planar like the older Abyss stuff. For high order stuff that'd be excursion limits on FT1 Pro or Focals.

I'm not sure, I just saw a lot of bass, which made me think maybe IE.

I tried to point out that it was more about shooting frequency bands that tend to be problematic for us commonly on various headphones. 6khz being a particular annoyance for me with in-ears given that's where my length mode resonance typically falls. Harman got literally caught in the crossfire.

This is a useful clarification! I admit I also have not read his AES paper on this, at least not that I can recall. I guess the question is to what degree the HpTF behavior changes with the welti-mod beyond leakage effects, if at all.

I think if you go wide enough it probably isn't. But despite the Harman target being a 'known good', individual preferences still spanned quite a range, and closer to Harman wasn't always more preferred. I'd be interested to see if that range changes when the in-situ response is controlled for.

Certainly not, but we do have evidence that the in-sit response of the same headphone varies dramatically from head to head, and that rig pinnae are not necessarily the best indicators of DRP response for actual humans. So preference for a different HRTF may be due to those variables.

Oh, we're updating the bounds soon! We have something very interesting for that.

I think I mentioned this on stream at one point but worth saying again - it's understandable why things were done the way they were, and any 'mistakes' we've identified are mainly with the benefit of hindsight, and more so a selfish wishlist, and to future proof the work that was done.
