FYI, for Roman history it poses as @wmarybeard.bsky.social, Shelley Haley, @walterscheidel.bsky.social, Richard Alston, Moses Finley, Judy Hallett, Sarah Pomeroy, or Peter Garnsey.
Thank youuuu!
Thanks!! I'm so excited that we can now afford to buy the equipment we need to get things started. We will also produce all materials for any physical and digital displays in both English and Greek.
Utilizing the historic plaster casts of the Parthenon friezes housed on campus, we will produce new digital & physical replicas, analyzing how replicas support critical engagement with history, spark curiosity about replication techniques & create space for reflections on cultural identity 😁 /end
BEYOND thrilled that I have been awarded (– along with my fabulous colleagues Mary Ton and Elias Petrou) funding from our Campus Research Board for the project "Parthenon at Illinois: studying interaction through historic and emerging replication techniques" 🎉 /1
in case you've never seen it, this is Roger Ebert on The Mummy
Super fun morning with my LAT 401/491 Apuleius class at @illinoisrbml.bsky.social! Thanks to Cait for curating such an excellent display of works for us 🤩
I don't know anything about oil/the oil markets/the oil trade (be warned: I am not asking you to explain these things to me) so would say my life online right now is "child of probably divorcing parents senses that maybe the vibes are becoming increasingly off at home?"
the three @theguardian.com articles are here 👇
we have saved daylight
but at what cost
The car clock is always a bridge too far.
Well, I’ve already changed my oven and microwave clocks so I guess I won at Daylight Savings.
I think about this all the time. And for faculty in good jobs it still has some of that — I do enjoy knowledge making. But those are so so few and everywhere else the academe is indentured labor to a loan shark.
There is literally no way to find a real life fox that attractive and that’s sort of the dealbreaker for folks, most real life foxes just want to eat chickens and not be sexy

I waited for a really long time because I decided I had to be in a really specific mood to deal with it. Turns out that mood was being full of cheese and a little bit tipsy over the Christmas holidays 🤣
That was the point my non-Classicist partner was like “ok yeah even I’m out now” (I had already paused it a million times to go off on mini-rants to him 😅 #notsorry)
Perhaps the only good thing to come out of Gladiator II?

Such an important issue voiced by exceptional scholars and teachers. Read every word.
The latest Pasts Imperfect is out, focused on the closing of humanities depts. & museums. @otavano.bsky.social discusses the U. of Ottawa, @mokersel.bsky.social on the DePaul Art Museum, @meirazk.bsky.social & @vox-magica.bsky.social on shuttering religious studies depts, & Justin Vorhis on U. Iowa.
Went on record saying, essentially, “AI sucks, fund the humanities” today

What’s most annoying about this is it assumes economic insecurity is a product of individual “skills gaps” as opposed to a structural condition of our political/economic systems.
So now Ss are trapped in a system obsessed with job prep at a time when every company is gutting their future jobs.
In fairness, it really should be.
I would definitely struggle with that if I had to use it regularly (fortunately with my research, I do not).
Applications for this NEH-funded institute close THIS FRIDAY March 6th! All the details and links to the application can be found in the blog 👇
Just too many vowels honestly.
I clearly missed this lesson back in the day 😅
I shouldn’t laugh but… 🤭
