Should I join apps and start dating just for the practice to be less of a bummer on coffee dates with friends? 🤔

Photo of a pleased woman wearing a dark blue knit cardigan with all-over ribbing, raglan seams, a small shawl collar, tan-and-brown buttons down the front, and a diamond cross-hatched pattern in a band on each upper arm as well as in a rectangular panel on the upper back. The sleeves each transition from roomy at the elbow and down the majority of the forearm to fitted 1x1 ribbing for several inches before and over the wrist. The gloves are still a wip, with another spindleful of yarn needed before I cast on the second hand. The last finished project I didn't happen to post here, more explicitly for work, is this cardigan: ravel.me/cjgladback/nc

I do continue making progress on fiber projects through the power of crafts before clocking in and on lunch breaks. (This is my second project working with my handspun, and I'll be updating the ravelry page as I go: ravel.me/cjgladback/rfg)
Also, yes, Krita does gifs!

Its been a few years since I did any keyframe creature animation, so my most recent personal project has been exactly that :)

I referenced Daniel Fotheringham’s quadruped blog quite a bit while learning his workflow, it was a lot of fun :)

A vintage storybook styled map of an enchanted forest. The main title says “The Scorchwoods” and there are a number of midcentury medieval illustrations of different points of interest in the forest: cave, boneyard, stones, flowers, pool, orchard, cottage, and camp. The map has a curling ornate border with a stylized dragon in the top left.

A close look at the enchanted forest map for the upcoming Perils & Princesses TTRPG adventure “The Princess & The Dragon.” I love taking a simple point crawl and injecting it with atmosphere and style. Dropping an evocative world map on the table really entices players to explore.

"Porcelain crabs are decapod crustaceans in the widespread family Porcellanidae, which superficially resemble true crabs." - Wikipedia

So it's one of the other branches of things Becoming Crab; like technically most insects aren't bugs because there are true bugs, if you're being taxonomical.

Digital illustration made in Procreate depicting a warmly lit home office in the early 2000s. On the office desk is a teal and white early iMac G3. A black cat is half-crouched with the computer mouse in its mouth, staring at the viewer as though caught mid-hunt.

The scene is littered y2k objects. The wall has a poster of Rihanna and of Britney Spears' "Oops!... I Did It Again" album cover. Items on the office desk include a blank CD stack, a pink lava lamp, a VHS on top of a Blockbuster case, and an old landline phone.

This bobtail squid burrowing into the sand is already adorable, but please watch till the very end!

It sticks out its little arms and earnestly sprinkles sand over itself 🦑𓂃◌𓈒𓐍

A two-panel comic drawing. The first panel says “why use water-hungry AI…”, accompanied by an abstract drawing of a dark cloud extending fingers into Earth or water. The second panel says “when you can support dehydrated artists?”. The image is of a skull next to a paintbrush and a palette. The skull says “we’re very low impact”.

A black dress, created with the new ultrablack fabric (seen around the blue patch).
Yes, if I had the right body for it, I would definitely wear that. a Scanning electron microscope (SEM) image of barbs/barbules from a feather of the magnificent riflebird (Ptiloris Magnificus), a species of bird-of-paradise family. Inset image of bird, photo credit: Eric Gropp, CC BY 2.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=63294234. b Black dress inspired by bird-of-paradise, fashioned with black polyester blend (BPETB) and a centerpiece consisting of the ultrablack wool (UBW). c Schematic of two-step method to create UBW. d UBW and the control fabric, PDA-dyed merino wool (PDAMW), under two different standard lighting systems. e Photographic image of (1) white merino wool (WMW), (2) plasma treated WMW (40 W 80 min), (3) PDAMW, and (4–8) plasma treated PDAMW (40 W 5, 30, 50, 80, and 110 min, respectively) (Diameter of samples: 38 mm) under standard lighting system with corresponding SEM images (e1-e8). Scale bars = 1 μm; Inset scale bars = 5 μm. f Schematic for two directions of tactical flashlight in dark room. g Flashlight illuminating from directly ~30 cm above the fabrics (i: WMW, ii: BMW, iii: PDAMW, iv: flock, and v: UBW). h Flashlight illuminating from ~60° slanted angle to ~30 cm away from the fabrics. (Diameter of samples: 38 mm).

Full credit to this team. Not only did they make an ultrablack fabric inspired by the Magnificent riflebird (Ptiloris magnificus), they went ahead and made an awesome dress 👗 with it. 🧪

In a comic strip panel, person in a red shirt walks through a sunlit forest. The text says "Sometimes I go looking for a tiny part of the universe." "This part only takes up as much space as: half an apple, a salt shaker, or 2 ping pong balls." Each of these items is shown. Galaxies and stars swirl as the text says "But somehow, in an unfathomably huge universe," and then there's a complex mess of forest leaves, with one tiny Wilson's warbler in one corner, and the text says "this one tiny part". There's a close up of the warbler, blazing yellow against a sparkly yellow background, and the text says "can fill up my whole heart."

Another comic from this past year. Sometimes I'm in awe about how incredibly small birds can be.

Starting from scratch isn't knocking everything down and resetting to zero, it is carrying forward the lessons with a clean plan. Building your tower on much higher, more stable ground.

Person I want to see this is obviously not on the platform but ughhh. Sometimes sad I can't talk politics on the job (to encourage people that voting has an impact or say sex is not a binary) but today it meant a visit didn't get more personal than being called a traitor to my race (human I think).

Trying to get a state employee to wake up to the...massive global conspiracy they're complacent in? during business hours is like flirting with a barista at work. We can neither shut you down bluntly nor engage at the level you want. The only response you'll get is 1) nothing or 2) kicking you out.

For that reason, Burrow's End is the first season of Dimension 20 I've rewatched, having been the first actual DnD season I went for in the stories I picked one at a time before starting in from the beginning of the show.

Even knowing what's coming, it's still so good.

Man, I love a good dawning realization in fiction. Every emotional version of it is delicious, but especially for spooky month the metaphorical "oh no I didn't even think to prepare for that threat but I've just understood the shadow I've been standing in this whole time as it steps up behind me."
