There’s definitely a sweet spot (or spots) to be found on “obscure for good reason” & “ubiquitous & popular for no good reason” continuum. Neither equals the music having any heart or meaning. I’ve had to learn that via own reactivity to both ends of the spectrum over my listening career.

I’m a big Lanthimos fan, but Bugonia was not his best, imo. Not terrible; some decent social commentary, good performances, but the twist was unnecessary and watered-down Shyamalan.

Never watched the show/cared, but was obvs aware of his celebrity status as a teen. I think why deaths like this are impactful now is the decline of cultural touchstones of my generation & how a 5-year age difference seemed like & perhaps is a lot when young but is basically meaningless by midlife.
