Climate model projections also reveal that, under 2°C of global warming, 98% of the ocean volume down to 2000 meters is expected to experience some form of extreme event every single day.
(But only when extremes are defined relative to a fixed preindustrial baseline.)
We find that subsurface compound events are closely tied to vertical shifts in water masses.
We assess their present-day distribution using climate model outputs, which we compare to recent observation-based data
