Nope, not this time. They gotta be done and ready for varnishing and decalling by the recipient for their birthday by next week.
The casts are identical, so of course I gotta make them look a bit different so they look like people.
Resin casts of what looks to be certainly hand-sculpted and certainly a while ago. Two parts, BIG old screw in the back of their helmets, metal mount for screwing them into their bodies at the bottom of the necks.
Usually a reason to break out the oils and have fun, right?
Sometimes, in between things I get to paint, I get to paint things which are a bit out of the ordinary for me. Here's two race driver dudes, 1/12th scale I suspect. They're for a Tamiya model car. Still very much WIP, apart from everything else, Mr.beardy's wonky eyes should give that away. :D
01.03.2026 11:40 β π 16 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Good to see some Lard represented at Tactica!
01.03.2026 00:30 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I have vague memories of a proper fanzine (black/white, stapled) of this name (well, in German) or a very similar one at a model store back in the day :) Nothing to do with this magazine, but it triggered that memory.
28.02.2026 19:49 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Good to hear. π
28.02.2026 17:18 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Looking very cool. And there can't be anybody in the world who does not enjoy the look and idea of tiny little hinges.
27.02.2026 23:55 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Thanks very much!
27.02.2026 22:33 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0cheers! :)
27.02.2026 21:41 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Heyhey, here's the Light infantry of Barcelona! All plastic (except for one drummer and the colour sergeant); Spanish line with some looted French gear. What a fun unit.:) Hope you like them! #wargaming #miniaturepainting #miniatures #napoleonic #wargames
27.02.2026 21:20 β π 37 π 3 π¬ 2 π 0In general and for 15mm i would say go larger. My smallest ones iirc are on large FoW squad bases.
26.02.2026 15:43 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Oh yeah, even just civilian spotters should work nicely for insurgents I suppose( you could even make it a scenario thing for the US player not to know which one's a JOP!).

Oh yes, that's a good one. (IIRC the Lardies sold resin ones themselves, right?
Last summer I was handed the Warlord/Italeri "battlefield accessories" kit to make things of it. Also very useful for JOPs (as simple stuff as sign posts will work.

Cheers!
If I just wasn't so horribly lazy about JOPs in 28mm. :D Or for Sharp Practice.
For Normandy: supplies, little hut, forward observation position
26.02.2026 13:00 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0For the Italians: Field HQ with lunch table, blown-up tank.
26.02.2026 12:58 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
Large enough to see on the table, doesn't fall over, isn't harboring a colony of toxic spiders.
I made a few in 15mm a while ago. Random truck, officer talking to bedouin as troopers pose with camel, blown-up tank with officer next to it who encourages men to go to battle.
Anything will do.
Oh, that is snazzy.

The whole process of a hand-scupted figure cast in metal is magic.
A digitally designed figure I don't think will ever have that. Yes, they are very sharp and precise (but so is a really well made cast), but they very often lack texture or organic-ness. It's just different.
Yup, that's my thing as well. I really enjoy the timeless quality of a hand-sculpted figure, appreciating what the person who sculpted the figure was thinking and how they were working, occasionally thinking "how they did they do that so precisely?".
26.02.2026 10:38 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0
oooh, major Playmobil flashbacks! :D
(can't believe this is still/again available)
Perrys news! That makes me happy. I have zero ambition to wargame that period as well, but then my lack of ambition has taken me to strange places in the past...
25.02.2026 16:25 β π 11 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Congrats on your taste in music. Also on the other thing, I guess. ;-)
24.02.2026 23:48 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0...a shame, but probably my largest collections of WW2 figures are ACW Confederates (because I was late to the party and everybody had Union already) and WW2 Soviets. :D Oh well.
23.02.2026 18:27 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0For instance, I'm also very cautious about which figures I showcase at wargames shows. Not necessarily bringing WW2 stuff to larger/more public event has always been a thing, but even at the closer-knit, smaller wargames shows I don't bring WW2 any more. Or ACW. ...
23.02.2026 18:26 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Come to think of it, I'm rather sure I saw more floral pattern shirts at wargames shows than "historically/ethically questionable" ones. It's all good in Wargameshausen, I think. Always a matter of outsider's impressions though I think, and one bad apple can spoil the Strudel.
23.02.2026 18:24 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Not that I ran into such shirts at wargames shows, mind you. 'Worst' I saw one time was a dude wearing a Tiger tank t-shirt, which isn't something I would wear (but then I'm not one to judge other's attire). In general, historical wargamers strike me as the less likely to wear silly history shirts.
