The Pope tweets: "The poor are not there by chance or by blind and cruel fate. Nor, for most of them, is poverty a choice. Yet, there are those who still presume to make this claim, thus revealing their own blindness and cruelty. #DilexiTe" Someone replies: "I was so hopeful I could be a Catholic again after the disaster that Francis was, guess we just get Francis 2.0 now and I am heartbroken. How do I stay a Catholic now...I don't want to lose faith but I am. You belong to someone else, not God."
heartbroken to learn the pope sympathizes with the poor. how can i continue to believe in god

16.10.2025 17:16 โ ๐ 201 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0If we can channel Benjamin Zephania's love of humanity, gentle humour and fierce political flame we are on the right path.
Thanks so much for this, @zackpolanski.bsky.social, and for speaking up for all the communities that the far right disparages.
I miss living in a world with Benjamin Zephaniah - his words and integrity become more relevant and important each year.
"This planet is for everyone, borders are for no one."
"No one can be a human being unless you have empathy for others."
Beautiful poem and thank you Zack Polanski for being so much better than all the rest.

(Which remains completely convincing despite some rather 'woke' words.)
Excellent. The crucial message to take from all this is if you're allowed to vote then go out and vote, make sure you exercise the right, the precious right to vote free from fear. If you think the politicians can't make a difference for you still go out and vote: by voting you keep democracy alive.

"Note: All the ingredients are equally important. Treating one ingredient better than another will leave a bitter unpleasant taste.
Warning: An unequal spread of justice will damage the people and cause pain. Give justice and equality to all."
Its odd when oeople hate other people from other countries as we had this Empire and Commonwealth citizens of the British empire, they fought in wars with us and they are our brothers and sisters ! The ignorance and arrogance of ( mostly) the English astounds me.

This shit is rife. I was talking to a Slovakian immigrant the other day who was arguing that immigrants and people of immigrant descent shouldn't gain political office in the UK because they 'Weren't British'. When I dug further, it turned out she was only referring to non-white people.
17.10.2025 08:29 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0What gets me is that Jenrick a) thinks he knows what being 'British' is & b) assumes he's 'integrated' a) being British isn't 1 thing but many b) Most people don't live like Jenrick - he's the outlier, not them. He & Bandenoch have no experience how ordinary people live as they've never lived it
17.10.2025 08:30 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0This is so true! There were those who thought like Jenrick and Farage when I was at school 50 years ago. They were out of date then, and they're out of date now. If just "being white" is your identity, you have no identity. Wanting England to be "just white" is like wanting a stew with no seasoning.
