This. I’ve been doing some peer review work lately and while I have been rejecting articles for not fitting the one I’ve submitted to, I have done my best to say: “Hey - this other journal is a much better home for your work!”

Desk rejections ≠ bad manuscript.
Academic journals have habitus—their own style, tone, & preferences. A desk reject often means your paper isn’t the right fit, not that it lacks merit.
Don’t lose ❤️. The same piece might ⛵️ through elsewhere. Reread the comments & try again.

Every time I go on leave (annual or sick), I set up an auto-responder with an out of office message. Every time, without fail; someone will begin interacting with it, thinking I am instantly replying to their emails with the same message over and over again. This has been happening FOR THREE YEARS.

Sex is great, but have you ever signed an authorship agreement after a paper has been accepted for publication? #AcademicSky #PhDSky

I suffer from chronic “passive voice” in my writing. It comes from lack of surety and confidence in my ability to write. It feels more comfortable and appropriate, even when I’m writing for publication.

Very useful - I’ve found several new journals this way that I now either add to my BrowZine or have on my list to submit to.

I bailed on Scrivener and went back to a combo of Obsidian and Word.
Obsidian for raw writing and chunks of that first draft. Word for polishing it off and making edits.

Anyone who says #racism is not an issue in #Australia welcome to chat with me. In the last 72 hours I have been called the n-word for wearing a uniform that had Indigenous art on it, and overheard someone arguing with airport staff about how skin colour should determine boarding priority.

About to begin teaching for the year. At the airport waiting for my flight.
Hats off to the person who checked into their flight as “Amanda Hugginkiss” and waited until they got paged to show up. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

It sucks, especially when there’s a gap between what the committee wants and reality.
