The only times I've bought vintage unopened TFs I've kept them sealed because I already had open copies of them. I've never been faced with the conundrum of a vintage toy I haven't physically held & played with yet, but I'm betting I'd side with opening it.

Its possibly the only time a game has made the decision to be boring on purpose for a long period of time to better serve the narrative.
It was a great game. It starts out as the most tropey of Final Fantasy knock offs, but then you beat it and get told to do it again. And again. And again. Each time gets more boring until you start to catch on that something isn't right about this. Then you find out the twist & everything shifts.
