Qual researcher in UK, watch and listen to the waves. I make sense of people for organisations of all kinds. Also occasional podcaster, novelist; watch too much football; weird enjoyment of driving; strong believer in open debate. www.shorequal.com

10.10.2025 13:16 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yeah sorry I'm from there - these guys have basically sectarian views which they pretend are hands-across-the-divide. It doesn't pass the sniff test. They recycle and revive rather than challenge the old republican attitudes, and are trying to pass off trad ethnic hatred as fresh and irreverent. Yuk
09.01.2025 19:09 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0By coincidence, re-watched this on Tuesday with son and his girlfriend (early 20s). Stands up really well, all the better for watching it now outside the 2009 ocean of regular Thick Of It viewing. So Tucker felt fresh again, and I felt freer to hate Olly. The Gen Zs laughed almost as much as me.

One addition: itβs not just the US; the world is becoming anti-social π

Excellent conversation between Yascha Mounk and our very own @shikhadalmia.bsky.social.
They talked libertarianism, populism, the political realignment Trump has wrought, older epochs like the one that featured conservatarianism, the nature of progressivism, and more.
In light of Meta recently ditching fact-checking on Facebook in a drive for βfree speechβ, many of us might be questioning the role of fact-checking online. | https://buff.ly/4jajDlD

And I enjoy "Let's Lynch The Landlord" now as much as I did when I was 15.

But Trump hasn't done that. He demanded they bend the knee and they have. It's worth knowing.
I'm 55 ... where does that leave me?
09.01.2025 18:26 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0What about 55?
09.01.2025 18:26 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Having read them both, I don't find that a fair or accurate representation. I have seen no misinformation from either. Julie is a respected campaigner on lesbian issues and Helen is a highly reputed former UK editor of The Economist. They are both very decent, liberal people and deserve to be heard.
09.01.2025 18:25 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Well, neither author does that, and I read both. We surely by now need to move past dismissing criticism of gender identity ideas as "hate" or "bigotry". It's just a different analysis.
I can't comment on festival organisers insisting on only one view of gender, but are you sure that's correct?

Just starting on Bluesky, let's see how it goes. Hoping it's a home for diversity of thought, and we can avoid meltdowns, or it'll be no better than the other place. Have to start positive π
