Yeah, I'd agree with that. I rarely have the motivation to play through games multiple times unless they're absolute classics. I loved Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, but I'm not sure I want to play through again on Hard mode...I should've started on Hard mode.

I was playing Hard Corps: Uprising (funnily enough also developed by ASW) last night, and that game does the opposite. It adds so many new mechanics to the Contra formula (double jump, air dash, bullet reflect, vault.)

That new Metal Slug game wouldn't let me run and shoot the enemy. I had to wait until they attacked first.

Joking aside, fighting games have moved into that territory. Guilty Gear Strive vs Rev2 vs ACPR reduced a lot of freedom on the player. The result? Arc Sys Works most popular game ever.
