Just a little rogue thought.. some companies paid 10 million $ just for the slot to make play their ad, not counting the cost of celebrities or making the ad.

I feel like some people watch his films and just see them as lovely fantasies. But they really mostly are not. Yes, they are lovely and magical… but so many of them have a deep core rooted in reality.

The worst horrors, the warriors, were created by men and destroyed the world. The real monsters are not the scary looking insects, but in fact, man seeking violence and power.

Miyazaki is making such a strong statement in this film about violence and kindness.

This movie has SO VERY much in it, things Miyazaki felt strongly about. It’s clearly about the environment but much more. About people from different factions coming together, about the absolute horrors of war and specifically nuclear war. Seeing the warrior and then thinking about what Japan saw.

I think more of us should take Miyazaki’s movies to heart. We rewatched Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind today.

I think because again, I’ve had more practice with that than color, like for instance I’ve done a lot of black pencil and charcoal drawings from life and I sometimes do basic tone work in boards. I’m not great at it but I’m better at that than color.

I’m ok with grey value! So we have opposite skill trees. But I think me being more intentional with emotional non traditional literal colors will help me. I’ve definitely been thinking about that concept for a bit but with no practice to explore it

Also another issue is I do need to reduce effort for this project so that I can make progress in limited time and spend time on what’s most important to me, storytelling etc.

I’d love to see plate breakdown… does that exist?

Color choice/palette/lighting for more complex illustration styles and rendering etc! Honestly I really think it’s a lack of practice. I just spend so very much time only working in black and white sketches.

I think Richard scarry’s I am a bunny has a cool style. The details are more line centric with large color blobs

I do really like some older children’s book illustrations that use simple color but texture. Ideally I could make my backgrounds look like Disney’s Pinocchio but that’s just not realistic for me without help right now
