No way Chikirou and Grégoire form an alliance, Chikirou actually openly said that her goal is to make the PS lose.
The most likely alliance is Dati-Bournazel IMO. Bournazel hates Dati as a person but there are national implications in this with the presidential election coming soon after.
And sometimes even that is not enough to make it into the Olympic team. Joy Beune has won every single 1,500m World Cup race she was in this season but only finished 4th at the trials and missed out on the Olympics on her favorite distance. Not ideal!
Re: Netherlands and long track speed skating, one overlooked issue is that they are *too good*. Even their top skaters have to peak for the Olympic trials, as opposed to every other nation who can plan their peak form for the actual Olympics.
Biathlon is the most popular winter sport in France (the only one whose World Cup is on free broadcast TV), so the kids who are fast at skiing all start picking up a gun and compete in biathlon because all kids want to be cool
I was being charitable there but I agree with you...
Because they would rather deal with it on a case by case basis, I guess? 🤷
Also standing/strapontin reservations are already sold for very specific passenger categories (like fully-flexible business or military/police tickets) so it is possible. My gendarme brother often changes his reservations at the last minute even when all trains is full.
What you are proposing is so reasonable that I would say it is actually even *more* restrictive than what SNCF already allows in practice in case of heavy disruption (as mentioned in the article for strikes). I sure have been on TGVs with more than 80 standing passengers!
I will believe it once Bosnia is able to run trains between the two halves of its own country in the first place
(One for @jonworth.eu's railway Bullshit Meter by the way)
It runs even deeper than this: Simon and Braisaz-Bouchet are the same age and come from the same tiny village so they've known (and disliked) each other for ever, and it was rumored that Simon has been known since childhood for her stealing tendencies but got a pass thanks to her sporting abilities
FWIW for France at Paris 2024 it was the former: most athletes were able to train full time thanks to greatly increased public funding and their performances already improved by a lot in the couple of years preceding (to the point that France didn't overperform that much during the Games themselves)
As a local cycling advocate, the ECF seems very far from our day to day concerns to be honest. The number 1 of them being we don't want to die.
The first time I subscribe to a newsletter before even reading it!
(And now that I *have* read it, I feel exactly the same way as you about Budapest Keleti)
It has been reinstated a year ago yes but only twice a day to connect with the night train from Paris. So there is nothing for the regional passengers which are the vast majority of visitors to Andorra.
I would love to see it but in the meantime we can't even get a L'Hospitalet - Pas de la Casa bus shuttle which would connect with the trains...
I know, I was responding to the following posts about what is the actual Paris CBD :)
Paris actually does have a "Central Business District", which is separate from the Paris Centre administrative district: fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quartie...
Around 500,000 employees work there, or three times La Défense.
The first part is planned, quite controversially: www.leparisien.fr/hauts-de-sei...
I don't think line 13 can be extended and keep its two branches as they are already way over capacity. Maybe La Fouche - Gennevilliers (-Argenteuil) should be disconnected and run as a separate line.
The Greens are in very high danger of losing both Lyon and the métropole in this year's elections to a car-loving businessman turned football team owner who has no clue about how to actually run a city, so for once I will give them a pass on hyping up a little bit about what they've done.
One for @jonworth.eu #malevolentrailway
Transilien Line J alone carries 260,000 passengers per day!
Well I think I know why... But only because I follow the unofficial Facebook page for the Briançon-Paris night train (yes, really): there are construction works those weekends between Nuits sous Ravières and Dijon and between Montereau and Sens

Random thought: since Flix can't run its own trains to the Netherlands, maybe it should partner with GoVolta as it already does all over Europe with intercity bus companies?
En même temps pour avoir des trains aussi tard il faut forcément qu'il y ait une demande forte, ça ne peut arriver que dans une métropole de (checks notes) 6500 habitants
