The Clark County School District has abruptly put the brakes on a plan to equip its school buses with cameras to help catch motorists who unlawfully blow by the vehicles as they load or unload students.
Facing a lawsuit filed by the ACLU, the Nevada DMV walked back its denial of officers using the encryption app to communicate with a federal task force that included an ICE agent.

The ACLU's Athar Haseebullah said it's not clear to him “how the DMV can simply walk back its erroneous representations about not using Signal to communicate as recently as two weeks ago,” adding “it’s even more bizarre that they’d expect the public to just take their word for things.”
"Just because we don’t have people in armed fatigues walking through East Las Vegas does not mean that ICE has not ramped up considerably,” said Michael Kagan, director of the UNLV Immigration Clinic.
“I have to say, based upon what I’ve reviewed so far, I’m leaning towards a penalty, but I want to see all the records produced,” the judge said.
