Bad example from me, though, since I’m specialising in the Brits. I think the Germans had it worse due to their food shortages. Turnip everything all the way to old boots and sawdust. A hot meal must’ve been a godsend.
I can’t think of how many times I’ve heard stories of soldiers and civilians recounting specific moments where they finally have some sort of hot food. Something very hopeful and lucky. Y’know?
You’ll see a lot of war-era-food-related art from me. It really reminds you how lucky you are to have hot meals. With vegetables!
