The Room by R.M. Davenport I twirl the cord between my fingers covered with finger paint from art therapy, and I beg my father as I cling to the receiver. I wail into the hard plastic attached to the nurse’s desk. β€˜Phone tim…

This piece is extremely personal, and I am happy to finally have the opportunity to share it.

Fay Sachpatzidis: Root Lady Fay Sachpatzidis is a writer and poet based in New York City. Her writing has appeared in Prairie Schooner, The Normal School, and Bodega Magazine, among other places.

β€œThis is a story I’ve carried for a long time. It’s about Bertha Murphy, but it’s also about my mother, and about the strange, intuitive pull I’ve always felt toward the supernatural. I’m grateful to finally give it shape on the page.” - Fay Sachpatzidis

Poetry today by E. A. Midnight

β€œhow much of love is seeing
someone else’s mental illness as a quirk / and not failure, not a dent, not
something that must be fixed”

Screenshot of a page in a book that read:

"But I choose to love you like an Indian
Because desperate love runs deep in our veins And they understand that.
Even if they don't understand us
This is home
And they respect our love
And our willingness to die for our love
Like our ancestors before us
Where the warriors set up war camps far away from the village so
that the carnage never
Touches the family
And they could die alone if there was dying to be done.
But the community could go on.
And as long as they understand that
We'll never have to worry."

Working in and for NDN Country is hard and devastating in the best and worst ways. You have to be in it for the people, you have to love the people for ALL of who they were, who they are and who they can and dream to be.

RABBLE REVIEW No.9 Multiple wars rage on, at least two genocides are happening, and fascist governments are consolidating their hold on a global population evermore on edge. These pages bear a deep seated fear, frustration, and uncertainty, that are in direct conversation with that reality. There’s an immediacy here that feels new. The clock isn’t just ticking anymore. The bell tolls as we tumble towards somethingβ€”and we are all bracing ourselves for what it might be.\n\nThe work in RABBLE REVIEW No.9 reflects on the new horrors and indignities that have become normalized, as well as the quiet bits of joy and rebellion we have adopted in the face of unprecedented suffering.\n\nWe are proud to present RABBLE REVIEW No.9. Join us as we make sense of our current reality and fight towards something better.\n\nSolidarity will see us through.

A sly and abstract rote.

When morals are not seen,
The brain behind them scoffs.
