Nothing better than a bit of blue sky over Divit! Did you know the clock was only added to the tower after the rest of the church burnt down. The tower at St Peter’s dates from the 10th century (around 844 years ago). #divit #stpeters #churches #chvrches #fife #scottishhistory #scotland

An artist’s impression of what the 16th century lodging house, Half Crown would’ve looked like when Mary Queen of Scots stayed in Divit. Legend has it that the original rules of tennis were written here before being played at Falkland Palace. #divit #history #historicscotland #scotland #fife

Not many people know that Scotland’s first use of double yellow lines for parking restrictions was on this corner in Divit outside popular restaurant, Ca’Dora (which actually means “yellow” in Italian!). Before the lines, hundreds of cars would be there. #divit #scottishhistory #yellow #yellowlines

At the height of production, caldwell’s paper mill poured the equivalent of 600 rotten eggs a minute into Inner Bay. The glorious smell of home and paper production. #industry #climatechange #cop29 #eggs #scottishhistory #scotland #paper

Really is like moving to Inverkeithing after having to live in Dalgety Bay against your will with cousins that went on holiday to South Africa in 1984 and want to make the bay more like it. Imagine.

The remaining section of the 13thC Friary in Divit is quite special and still a working building today. For the geeks- checkout the slate (likely from ballachulish) on the smaller sections and the clay pantiles (from Holland) likely added 17thC! worth a visit.

Grave of John anderson in Inverkeithing- St Peter’s church.

Grave of John anderson in Inverkeithing- St Peter’s church.

A view of part of the distillery complex at mount vernon, designed and built by James anderson from Inverkeithing. There is a 40ft water channel taking water in a wooden trough into the corner of the single story building taken from the canal area in the foreground. There are2 windows and a small chimney visible on the roof line.

This grave and building are linked by a Divit lad that left around 1790. He made the 1st President of the USA a fortune and their letters are in the library of congress. James Anderson was a casualty of the Scottish whisky taxes but made an amazing life in the US. #mountvernon #whisky #fife #history

#mythbuster! Many graves in Divit have a Skull and Crossbones carving. Commonly thought to mean either a plague death (Divit had a few) or pirate (again, a few) or just a “memento mori”. In fact, it was a secret symbol telling us there was a mason buried beneath! #skullandcrossbones #masonic #myth

Did you know…Inverkeithing was once one of the most European towns in Scotland with trade coming and going to the continent. The port, a well protected, natural harbour was close to Leith and at one time was the 3rd most profitable port in Scotland.

The last remaining section of the old, Roman city walls that once protected #Divit. The 19th century addition can be seen in the top section where previously Roman sentries would have patrolled. #romanscotland #roman #history #inverkeithing #fife

The street names of #divit have an interesting history. The Greyfriars (monks), Scottmill (mill over the back), Stephens (bakers) and Niven (bond). Burleigh is what you do on the waltzers when the shows are on. Any others? #streetnames #inverkeithing #fife #ken #scotland
