The more recent releases of proton were breaking the rockstar launcher. I just had to use 9.0 and I wasn't switching the version correctly while troubleshooting

Speaking as someone who has a tiny bit of programming experience from college and nothing else, I feel like the best way to make Linux a serious competitor to Windows would be to have pre installed learning modules that walk you through your system step by step.

Pop OS. I think I messed up the proton version in steam and broke the launcher permanently, got as far as signing in but it always ended up reducing back down to a tiny blank window. Tried reinstalling, not confident though.
