Recent neo-X and Y sex chromosomes in an ant cricket Abstract. In eukaryotes with separate sexes, sex determination often involves sex chromosomes that have diverged as a consequence of recombination suppress

M. myrmecophilus displays a neo-XY system which stemmed from an X- autosome fusion and includes two strata with varying degrees of Y degeneration. Ant crickets thus represent a promising new model for studying the early stages of sex chromosome evolution.
