From what I’ve read, in the early days after his discovery he was ostracized for his finding, and unable to garner adequate funding for quite some time - due to the controversy and divergence from amyloid focus.

On this day in 1993, Dr. Allen D. Roses (et al.) published that the presence of APOE4 genotype reliably predicts risk of early onset Alzheimer’s disease. Needless to say the AD research community was skeptical.

The New York Times What Drugmakers Did Not Tell Volunteers in Alzheimer’s Trials Genetic tests showed that certain patients were predisposed to brain injuries if they took the drugs. That information remained secret.

It will come as no surprise that I find amyloid antibodies to be dangerous, expensive, and not worth it, but WOW. Shouldn’t the ICF state that APOE genotype can impact risk and provide that info, if the participant wants?
