Arriving mid-speech is a literal nightmare experience; walking into a gallery with ready-to-socialize energy only to be met with a wall of silent people listening to someone droning on and on

This is a nuclear bomb to Ontario's democracy. The Ford government wants to obfuscate absolutely everything it does.

I always suspected the end goal is having us rent intelligence from big tech the way we now only ever rent other intellectual property instead of ownership. You can’t own movies any more and you can’t own knowledge, but you can rent them for limited use

California has rare deep water oarfish beaching themselves as harbingers of doom, but for Ontario this is what we have and it can’t be a good sign

Years ago our admin did a red and black report. It took salaries & how much $ each instructor made in tuition $ for classes we taught-you were in the red or black. They released numbers once & shut it down bc humanities were producing huge $ for uni & engineers, business and scientists were losing $

Very close crop of an oil painting showing just the body and a bit of the wings of a vibrant bat in flight, mouth open with teeth visible

This is actually the best summary of Stoner by John Williams I could find online, for a book that unexpectedly devastated me but I enjoyed it the whole time

The one line movie zingers on Letterboxd are more tolerable than the droning, endless “reviews” of books on goodreads that can’t do anything beyond summarizing the plot. I keep finishing monumental books and looking for reviews that put how I’m feeling into words but keep finding only synopses

I shovelled snow for 90 minutes and took a walk around the block and everything I shovelled away was filled in with fresh snow. My brain can barely comprehend what it’s seeing with how much of it is coming down all at once

OPINION | Canadian TV needs to get weird again | CBC Arts In the ‘80s and ‘90s, English Canadian screens were filled with bizarre, fever dream-like shows. Writer Niko Stratis argues that we need to back to that

For CBC Arts, I wrote about why I think Canada needs to revel in the beauty of its weirdest impulses www.cbc.ca/arts/canadia...

The most selfish, warmongery people alive on the planet getting together in a group and calling it the “board of peace” is just how stupid things are now. Trump at this point may as well assemble himself, Bill Cosby, and Harvey Weinstein into a club and call it “the cabinet of consent”
