When I got sick just before New Year’s, it was a super warm day for December - as in over 70. That cold did me in for a good three weeks.

It’s terrible. Specialists are the worst. I’ve had 8 months for the earliest appointment.

Say it after me: Chat GPT is not a search engine. It does not scan the web for information, it just generates statistically likely sentences. You cannot use it a search engine, or as a substitute for searching.

Now. Please never use an LLM for information searches ever again.

Not saying it’s a bad game. But not one that fits in with my day-to-day schedule. But for now, I’ll keep playing since curiosity and novelty are winning out.

It’s a game that benefits from playing at least a little bit daily over playing it in larger spurts once in a blue moon. Which is totally fine but as an adult with a computer job, the last thing I want to do on weekdays is be tied to another screen.

So playing Hello Kitty Island Adventure, I’m slowly figuring out things. I try not to look up stuff on the internet unless I’m banging my head against the wall.

It’s a bit frustrating, to be frank. Like a list in-game for what all the each friendship level unlocks. (Unless that already exists, and I’m just oblivious.)

For example, trying to do something, have no idea how to get it done, resort to Google to find out I need another few levels of friendship before reaching another task needed to get to tool necessary to accomplish this task.

So playing Hello Kitty Island Adventure, I do have some complaints. One is the lack of information in-game.

The flowers haven’t popped up yet, but Waddle Dee is ready for when they do.

I feel like GOTY are easier to find than some Truly Me secondhand, because for years there were 40 dolls to pick from and only 1 GOTY that was super hyped up. But I’m trying to not be influenced by what line they are from in my decision making process.

It’s also forcing me to really ask which dolls I have a true connection to vs just wanting because I think they are pretty or harder to find in good condition at a cheap price secondhand.

Working on downsizing the number of AG dolls I have. AG will always have a special place in my heart but I added way too many dolls without selling any, so my max size was went way over what I feel comfortable with.

So started playing Hello Kitty Island Adventure. I don’t dislike it but feel like it’s harder to find the materials needed to craft items? Or is this just how the game is?

Am I the only one who immediately thought “Pokemon Theme Song” when it leaked that next year’s Rhythm Dance is 90s music? It 1) came out in the 90s, 2) it’s high energy, 3) next year marks Pokémon’s 30th anniversary.

I’m waiting on my physical copy to be shipped

There have been people less than helpful in my journey here. I wanted to acknowledge those too, bc I know I am not unique in this experience. No thank you to the physics study assoc that made me sing songs about how women couldn't study physics without sleeping with the professor, the day I stepped into university life. No thank you to the 5th year physics student that decided to assign me a stripper name within the first minute of meeting me in the physics coffee corner in my first year. No thank you to the technician that was responsible for onboarding me on the use of the cluster in my third year who raised his eyebrows and asked me if that meant I was some sort of computer girl. No thank you to the senior researcher that sent me utterly inappropriate texts after a conference, then proceeded to apologise months later by telling me they had not been meant for me anyway so no hard feelings remain hopefully And no thank you to him for attending every conference I've been to since. No thank you to the people who told me that it was surprising that I was doing a PhD since I was a girl. No thank you to the man who mistook me for a coffee lady at a conference, and after having to correct him two times that I did not work there, responded with you should consider it. No thank you to the researcher that asked me what I was wearing underneath my outfit during a conference. No thank you to the physicist who declared to a room full of other physicists that biologists don't know how to design an experiment. No thank you to the people who have called me scary instead of strong and intimidating instead of intelligent. And finally, no thank you to the exec board of the TU Delft, whose knee-jerk reaction to being held up a mirror about the social safety at the university, was to sue the party holding up the mirror instead of looking at the problems they highlighted. ... You have made me feel like I do not belong in science & I cannot forgive you for that.

A friend included this anti-acknowledgement section on her PhD thesis. She also added the proposition: “Systematic bullying and undermining of girls and women in STEM starts early on and is the reason why they do not stay in science and related fields.”

Every spring, the Peeps come out of storage to decorate the house. And Yuki, in particular, tends to greet them like long lost friends he hasn’t seen in ages. 😹
