Even if Ren closed his eyes, he knew he would still see all that blood, dark and thick and still. His heart pounded. He had to shout just to be heard over it. "Can you hear me, Shido? Listen to me!"
Mona yowled, "Joker, calm down and—"
"I'm going to make you pay for what you did to him!" Ignoring Mona's protests, Ren raised his voice higher and made every word echo from the steel walls: "You're going to wake up every morning wishing you could kill yourself to apologize to Goro Akechi!"
As the reverberations faded, over the sound of his own loud breaths, Ren heard his phone chirp, "Candidate found."
There's no way that Akechi could have survived the events of the engine room. Ren goes back for him anyway.
