Serve your country! Defend your culture!

Just in case it’s not already clear that ICE is a white supremacist thug army, Homeland Security is recruiting with a β€œdefend your culture” slogan.

Yep. I remember saying, "I miss the time before Richard Dawkins got a Twitter account."

It's better to know what a repulsive asshole he is, but it was still a disappointment.

I saw one video clip of Dawkins making a small flirty comment to a young woman getting her book signed. At the time, I thought he was joking since he's obviously too old for her.

Now I realize he was joking in the "Haha, just kidding... unless?" way.

It probably wasn't his first or last time.

I finally got around to putting two index cards with "If found, please return to..." info in my backpack. I also have a sticker on my phone with my email address. I should probably buy a couple air tags for my backpack, and whenever I travel with luggage.

I remember when Richard Dawkins had his meltdown over a woman who described being propositioned in an elevator at a conference, and she said, "Guys, don't do that." That was it.

25 minute video about the conf, of which 30 seconds was about being propositioned.

Absolute overreaction nuttery.

The employee asked the girl and her mother if they needed help shopping. That’s it. That’s all. The misinformation, the insinuations (because the facts are inconveniently benign) are EXACTLY what was done to lesbians in the 80s. This is the product of hate and fear, not reality.

For example: Trump is our king and he can do whatever he wants and laws and courts are just legitimizing appendages for his will now.

That's not doomerism! That's just what has actually happened!

Doomerism would be to say "and its impossible for us to ever pull out of this spiral."

"Capitalism Killed the Dinosaurs" is a great video about the 90s sitcom Dinosaurs, and it showed me a bunch of stuff I didn't really pick up on as a kid. I ended up watching the full hour: www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lfT...

And if you don’t live in Seattle, today is a great day to text your friends who live there and ask if they know that the major once pulled a gun on a pregnant woman in a parking lot. We can do better!

I'm doing some vibe coding experiments. If your project is small and you have years of coding experience, it only takes a dozen or so rounds (and light edits) to make it work. Here's ascii_moon_phase: pypi.org/project/asci...

Vibe coding is definitely not something a beginner can do.

Yep. "Hurt people hurt people." People who are damaged and focus only on their hurt and don't mind hurting others to get ahead, because "that's what everyone does." They feel like they've uncovered wisdom by cheating, as if they're the first to discover cutting in line in front of others.

This is the core proposition & selling point for reactionary thought: not that they are better, but simply that *everyone* is corrupt, everyone is a crook, everyone's just out for themselves, so you might as well get yours. That is the molten core of right-wing thought everywhere.

I mean, I can think of browser based REPLs and web tutorials and such, and my "scroll art" programs don't require graphics or anything since they work with just "print". But yeah, typing Python code from a phone seems like a nightmare. There must be ways to help this audience.

I mean, my contention has always been that hackathons should be fun little networking events, and if you spent it trying to code something, you were wasting your time.

Week-long game jams sometimes produce cool things though.

Has anything good every been made at a "hackathon"? Either a one-day or one-weekend hackathon. Everything made was more about promise/hype and it was basically forgotten or dropped a couple months later, if not a couple days.

Have you ever seen something of substance made at a hackathon?
