I often get asked about the Miyawaki method of forest restoration, usually by people who have heard extraordinary claims for it. Morales et al. (2025) have reviewed the evidence and found it to be weak or absent. ππ§ͺπ³π² besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...
People find the superlatives appealing - taller, denser, faster growth! - but aren't aware that very densely-planted trees will compete with each other causing high levels of mortality. In my view, given the shortage of native tree stock here in Ireland, it's not the best use of a scarce resource
