Meanwhile KCD has two well-written intresting characters, each with their own story, and it allows for the deep and complex romantic arc.
It allows everyone to have their own adventure, but limits how much depth writers are able to add into relationships. They simpy don't have another well-written character to bounce things off, they only have a blank for the player.
I think the difference is that BG3 (and other games with such kind of romances) basically has only half of romance with limited interactions and voids which up to a player to fill in. It's somewhat necessary in this case - every player co-creates the story in such games to their likeness.
