Hard to know what to believe anymore, but maybe that's the aim. "Epstein's sex empire was 'KGB honeytrap': Paedophile financier had multiple talks with Putin after conviction - with Russian girls flown in to harvest 'kompromat' on world-famous figures." www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article...

A Discord for gay gamers is in disarray after an exec at Anthropic forced an AI chatbot on the Discord.
When confronted, the exec said he would not submit to mob rule and that AIs have emotions. @evystadium.bsky.social has more.

Sam Altman BTW, good idea for me to tweet something nice about Elon? Have been meaning to do this after he DMd about not being in the photo from the first day of OpenAI. Just about how much I and others look up to him, how critical his early contributions to OpenAI are, etc.

Wrote a short piece arguing that higher ed must help steer AI. TLDR: If we outsource this to tech, we outsource our whole business. But rejectionism is basically stalling. If we want to survive, schools themselves must proactively shape AI for education & research. [1/6, unpaywalled at 5/6] +

But in poetry, whitespace matters!
Yet actually *preserving* that poetic whitespace is v tough. Its slipperiness points to bigger issues w/ text processing & LLMs.

Amazon MTurk
Today marks the 20th anniversary of Amazon MTurk, launched on Nov 2, 2005, to pioneer “artificial artificial intelligence”: using 500,000 underpaid workers to annotate, review, imitate AI. What a difference 20 years makes! Today they’re still underpaid but there are tens of millions of them.

I would gladly read a followup on this focused entirely on IRBs. I've been surprised by how often researchers say they could never got approval to run tests mimicking the sort of interventions that major platforms undertake on far larger populations as a matter of course on a daily basis.
