This statement from Jonathan Joss's husband is heart breaking.

No, headline writers, he wasn't "killed in an argument with a neighbor." He was *deliberately murdered* for being gay right after his dog was decapitated.

Bet the murderer calls himself a "Christian."

THIS is why Pride is important.

A word cloud made from flagged terms in terminated NIH grant proposals. The most prominent words in large font include “trans,” “diverse,” “diversity,” “minority,” “sex,” “expression,” “mental health,” “gender,” and “women.” Other visible terms include “LGBTQ,” “racial,” “underrepresented,” “disability,” “barriers,” “black,” “equity,” “health equity,” “vaccine,” “bias,” and “intersectionality.” The word cloud highlights terms related to identity, inclusion, and marginalized communities.

HAPPY PRIDE 🏳️‍🌈

Under Trump, research using terms like “Trans,” “LGBTQ,” & “Gender identity” is being defunded. These terms reflect real people who deserve science that includes them.

Stand with us to protect LGBTQ+ science from political erasure.

This is brilliant because it takes advantage of academics’ natural willingness to talk about their work.

Please consider doing one of these!

Spent the weekend grant-writing. I bribeb myself with cafe-hopping in San Francisco. (It's like bar-hopping for losers.)

Anyway, I had an affogato and a barista thought I was a college student so overall it was a pretty great experience.

🚨 Practical URGENT tip for NSF grantees:

Out of an abundance of caution, I would right now go into Research.gov and…

1. Download your NSF award letters.

2. Print PDF your annual reports.

3. Screenshot the status table for annual reports.

NSF is planning maintenance tomorrow to Research.gov

Fact check! These have been in the DSM since 1980. If you personally did not hear of something, that does not mean it was non-existent.

(1/4) Does integrating military culture make a difference when providing PTSD treatment to service members? 🤔🇺🇸
✅ Yes! Evidence-based PTSD treatments have been shown to be more effective for active-duty patients when culturally informed adaptations are made.

"Get a federal grant" is a common - although often unwritten -expectation for tenure and promotion in science departments.

Every science department should start reviewing those tenure and promotion requirements IMMEDIATELY.

Departments can't review faculty as though it's "business as usual."

Federal employees, IT IS YOUR RIGHT TO CONTACT YOUR REPRESENTATIVES! Be sure to:

1. State that you are contacting them as a private citizen.
2. State the impact on you as a private citizen who happens to be federal employee.
3. Correspond outside of work hours.

More from inside NIH:

Per a source with knowledge, for all internal research (of which there is like $10 billion worth or so), ALL purchasing shut down as of yesterday.

That means gloves, reagents, anything involved with lab work, which means a lot of that work will stop.
