Streets, buildings, and addresses are the usual starting point - just click edit on the website and start tracing stuff 😁 Search the wiki if you're not sure how to tag something. (also the OSM US slack is very active and helpful)

But yeah it does feel like a lot sometimes, lol

Richmond Virginia has vape shops that have been there longer than the Confederacy was. Build a statue of Francine the Lowes cat, or just any possum. They're more important to the identity of the city at this point. Lucy Dacus has spent more time in Richmond than Jefferson Davis.

The city released a dataset of cell phone telemetry they purchased joined to road data. Here's a visualization I made of how much over the speed limit each road is traveled on, on avg.

Green - below speed limit
Yellow - 0-5 over
Orange - 5-10 over
Red - 10+ over

You may also want to copy their FOIA officer, who knows that they're legally required to respond dpw.foia@rva.gov

My vague impression is that UFD has an internal working inventory that maybe they consider too messy to publish?

While the total rainfall might not change over the course of a year, the *intensity* of rain in individual storms is rising.

The data is already showing that in RVA.

Maybe, I don't know either πŸ€” ok after reading about it, they only push the emergency alerts to everyone when it's a β€œconsiderable” or β€œcatastrophic” threat, and I guess it didn't look that bad on radar for the early ones. The 2pm alert was when the police told them it was bad

Every year, people are killed walking along Nine Mile. Mothers with children, senior citizens. It may not be as high in foot traffic as the Diamond area, but it's much more dangerous.

It's annoying that urbanists and YIMBYs keep asking for "missing middle" housing - cozy little 4-8 unit apartments. But developers only want to build huge luxury units that maximize profit for their private equity ownership.

Coincidentally, I was just walking by, and that block is mostly the Truist building now. The Mutual Aid building at the far right is from 1906, and replaced their building at the same spot in the original picture.

My vague understanding is that the central precinct isn't actually allowed to count the early votes until the polls close on election day. At which point they have to count like 9,000 while every other precinct counts a few hundred max

They're both pretty conservative, pro-policing Democrats. But the city jail is a hot mess, only career LEOs want the job.

Yeah, local urbanists have been complaining about this. The city just got rid of parking minimums and is overhauling the zoning code. I think you've nicely captured the densest parking area, as seen on this map. Surprisingly RVA scores in the middle for US cities 🀷🏽 parkingreform.org/parking-lot-...
