I conflated using the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” as a reference point for the Democrats’ refusal to approve the operating budget. The bill’s approval only required 51 votes; the budget, 60. Democrats view the BBB’s passage as extremely harmful for reasons previously noted; hence the stalemate.
