A growing police state. A reason for Democrats to seriously ask whether we should fund this or not.

This week in San Antonio I met two traumatized young boys who were locked up for 6 weeks at Trump’s “baby prison” in Texas. Taken when they checked in for a routine hearing, their mother waiting in the car with their backpacks for school.

It’s insane this is happening.

I spent the morning at the San Antonio immigration court. It’s out of control.

Crawling with ICE - arresting legal immigrants showing up for court appearances.

I asked one officer who they are prioritizing. His answer: everyone.

I need to share with you what I saw.

Just showed up at the San Antonio immigration court. I’m here as an observer. People are coming here for their required appearances; people following the law.

It’s 8:15am and the place is already swarming with armed ICE officers, waiting to arrest peaceful, legal immigrants.

I flew down to south Texas today to do my job - investigate why people are dying in ICE detention centers.

I was just illegally denied entry to Dilley Detention Center. Because they have something to hide.

Another death in an ICE detention facility. A growing, unsurprising, tragic epidemic.

Our democracy is rigged for the billionaire class.

If you want to know why your wages are shitty and health care is too expensive and your kids’ school is falling apart - that’s why.

Democrats have no obligation to support a bill that not only funds the dystopian scenes we are seeing in Minneapolis but will allow DHS to replicate that playbook of brutality in cities all over this country.

I understand Dems in these negotiations had a hard job – no new budget for DHS is going to cure all the illegality happening within the department. But the bill doesn’t return CBP agents to the border where they belong and doesn’t put checks on ICE’s out of control arrest and enforcement operations.

My statement on funding DHS:
The proposed Appropriations bill for the Department of Homeland Security released today puts no meaningful constraints on the growing lawlessness of ICE, and increases funding for detention over the last Appropriations bill passed in 2024.

I am on my way to get access to ICE’s Dilley Detention Center in south Texas. To do my job of oversight. I have been told I am going to be illegally refused entry, but I’m going anyway. We can’t let them hide.

Trump is terrorizing our communities with a campaign of inhumane un-American ICE brutality - and he's paying for it by raising health premiums on 20 million Americans.

A group of Senators met with the Foreign Minsters of Denmark and Greenland and it was so maddening.

People in our country are losing their health care, facing price hikes on everything - and Trump is prepping an invasion of Greenland.

12/ This gives us a clue as to what life will feel like when we go to a game not for the rush of a win in the presence of friends and like-minded fans, but to follow a bet.

Or care about a war not because of empathy for the humans impacted, but because there's money on the line.

And their finding is simple. Careers and money don't lead to happiness. Connection, friendship, and camaraderie do.

10/ But more foundationally, what does it feel like to live in a world where everything is a commodity? Where experiences have no inherent value, just a relation to a price?

For the answer, we need a little help from the longest study of human happiness in our nation's history.
