@dianabutlerbass.bsky.social I found your post asking people to read a cautionary critique of the MRFF very helpful. I shared with some Facebook friends but now the link to your Bluesky post is dead. May I ask why you deleted it?
Breaking News: The Border Patrol leader Greg Bovino mocked the Jewish faith of the U.S. attorney in Minnesota during a call with lawyers, according to several people with knowledge of the conversation.
SPJ strongly condemns today’s arrest of journalists @donlemonofficial.bsky.social and Georgia Fort in connection with their reporting on a Jan. 18 demonstration at a church in St. Paul, Minnesota.

A reminder to the news media: “conflicting accounts” is what you say BEFORE the incontrovertible video evidence appears. After that, your job is to ask why one side is lying, not to repeat the lie and pretend no one knows the truth.

PG NEWS: On January 20th, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) filed contempt charges against the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette for defying court orders to restore workers’ health care plan.

If you're following the unbuilding of CBS News:
"A story with on-camera sources, legal clearance, and five rounds of vetting gets killed for not being ready. A story with anonymous sources and internal objections gets published because the editor-in-chief wanted it." www.readtpa.com/p/what-the-t...
Breaking news posts like this demand facts and context. This is just stenography. It happens every damn day: being first & Trump friendly wins over doing journalism. This ought to include what Walz & Frey have or have not actually done in Minnesota. (Hint: not impede ICE)
The comments below that old web story reflect some of the feelings he inspired in the employees who knew him; compare them with the accounts of current employees about the owners who are shutting down the paper. 4/4
It was 20 years ago that Post-Gazette publisher Willam Block Sr. died. How sad to see the contrast of his legacy with the current generation of PG ownership. Here's a link to his 2005 obituary in the PG. 3/

He assured us the buyers would operate in the best interests of the employees whose livelihoods he was then entrusting to them. I also remember Bill Block once quietly showing up unannounced at a summer picnic of his radio station’s employees as a sign of goodwill. 2/
The Block family’s Post-Gazette also once owned WWSW Radio, where I had worked. When the Blocks decided to sell the radio station, I remember the late PG patriarch Bill Block Sr. coming to speak to the affected employees. He explained that he had vetted the new owner. 1/

Has anyone yet posted the 38-page handbook that CBS News is now ditching in favor of a handful of slogans and mottos? I’d love to see what they’re so proudly abandoning.
This is so sad to hear. My sympathy to those affected. Were employees only notified today and is it effective immediately?
Well folks, some news. Ownership is folding @pghcitypaper.com. I wish I could say this was more surprising. I'll be on the lookout for new roles while I continue to teach and hopefully find places to publish some stories I haven't finished. In the meantime, I'm all ears for opportunities.
“These men risked their lives to speak with us. We have a moral and professional obligation to the sources who entrusted us with their
stories. Abandoning them now is a betrayal of the most basic tenet of journalism: giving voice to the voiceless.”
Sad to hear of the passing of Maggie Patterson. I knew Maggie from her leadership in SPJ. Devoted to high standards of journalism, an accomplished author & educator. A professor of journalism at Duquesne University.
