Ill be clear about why I am so angry and critical about it: Im seeing a good portion of my students who have imbibed the notion that they dont have to read, think or write for themselves because ChatGPT/CoPilot will do their thinking for them, and its terrifying. It should scare all of us.

One more way AI doesn't actually save time/effort? Because while it takes 20-30min to grade a paper, it takes 2x that to realize it's AI, check citations & document how they're hallucinated or don't at all say the thing the paper claims, write this up, respond to NONSENSE excuses that come back.....

What these goons don't seem to realize is that decades of neoliberal policies have forced the work of care downstream--from the state onto families, and then onto women, who've had to get very good at caring for others through the crises that those same neoliberal policies tend to create.

There’s an assumption that this is designed to justify their violence towards protesters. But I’d worry it has a different goal: they know that an ICE agent is about to be killed any day, and this sets up the narrative-trail - so it’ll be the fault of everyone who criticised ICE

So NOW can we have that conversation that the United States having the world's largest carceral state, the most (and most heavily armed) cops, the most prisoners, and the most cages, has never been about safety and always been about institutional racism and suppressing dissent?

The other thing about normalizing gAI use in higher ed is that we are teaching our students that they cannot trust their own creativity, their own thoughts and brains, their own skills without having it reshaped/shellacked/transmogrified by LLMs. We’re setting them up for failure and dependence.
