I did a similar effect at the top of each main tack, just reversing the gradient and putting it at the top. Then the JS puts an inline style setting the background color to the arbitrary value you can set on tack composition.

You mean the doubled tacks? The highlight at the bottom is in fact a linear gradient, with its height restricted and repeat of repeat-x, and positioned at the bottom!
