Yep, I read Ed every week. I don't even think the merits or lack thereof for generative AI matter much anymore, just from a financial perspective the market is clearly overvaluing the industry because it has neither the money or time needed to do all this datacenter stuff.

Even if they were able to deliver all of the promises they've made, there'd still be a bubble simply because there's not enough money in the world to fuel this technology. Only the US could scrape together over a trillion dollars in just a few years.

I've only played the first two but basically Hunger Games/Battle Royale except the murderer has to get away with it or they also die. Admittedly cringe at times but very good overall, particularly the second one which is the most popular in the trilogy and is getting a new version next year.

So many (murder) mystery games I've played: the entire Phoenix Wright series, Danganronpa, AI... unfortunately I have an extremely good memory for these sorts of things specifically so I never forget how they go down.

Yea this is a really weird arrangement. The only thing I can think of is that the shares are given to OpenAI to sweeten the deal, kind of like collateral. Because AMD can't do what Nvidia does in mindshare, software, and finance.

It really sucks since we'll never get to see that Switch 2-style processor by AMD. Unless Valve asks for it but I assume they wanna stick to 15 watts or under like they did with the Deck.

I'm surprised Microsoft didn't think they could do it, it's not like 10 million is a huge amount of a traditional handheld. Switch 2 is gonna do 10 million probably by the end of the year, and the Switch did it in under a year too. Really grim for Xbox.

Yea that part is definitely a big decision that shouldn't be taken lightly. But share deals aren't unusual for AMD, they did an all-stock deal for Xilinx.

Is this actually creating new shares or is this AMD giving shares it already owns? It's only share dilution if it's the creation of new shares.

When I did an article for The Register about power infrastructure for AI datacenters, I got the impression that the physical building process is very lengthy. I guess we'll see what happens but this timeline is overly ambitious to me. Good luck to OpenAI.

So we're at OpenAI needing to build out 26GW of datacenters by 2030ish... or just over 5GW a year. Is that even possible? I don't understand where the financing is supposed to come from or how they can do so much in that amount of time. They need to get on building this stuff ASAP to be on schedule.
